Alright, let's be real guys. Whether you're a big fan of Netflix or not, there's no denying that the streaming giant dominates the arena no matter how hard other platforms try. It's just the truth. While Netflix has many of its own hits when it comes to Originals, the streamer is also great at bringing attention to shows from other networks and platforms as well. Even if they're older. Just look at how Suits exploded and the secondary audience ABC's Grey's Anatomy has due to its popularity on the streaming service.
Now just recently, Netflix added 13 AMC shows to its roster including A Discovery of Witches. It definitely hasn't surprised me to see the fantasy series make its way into the Top 10 row because it's seriously one of my personal all-time favorites and such a well done adaptation of the books by author Deborah Harkness. So if you haven't checked it out but it's piqued your interest, here's 3 reasons why you should be watching A Discovery of Witches now that the series is on Netflix.

Teresa Palmer and Matthew Goode's onscreen chemistry
No matter how hard you try and how well the writing is, if the two main actors playing the central couple don't have chemistry, then it's not going to work. That's definitely not the case when it comes to Teresa Palmer and Matthew Goode. These two have insane chemistry. The sparks fly between their characters, Diana Bishop and Matthew Clairmont, right away. And it's thanks to these two that happens!
I love, love and I know many of you are in the same boat. I'm definitely a shipping type of girl. I promise you that Diana and Matthew's love story is going to get you hooked and invested. They're great as a couple, are willing to do whatever it takes to protect each other, and both have an equal role in this relationship. Even though it is a vampire and a witch together, they definitely make it work. That's also a forbidden romance right there, which I'm a sucker for. I can't resist this trope.
Diana is also a strong, female central character that's so important for us to see on television. She knows what she wants, knows how to seize power, and doesn't back down when things get hard. And she's ready to fight for her love for Matthew. And vice versa. The characters overall also have great backstories that make them interesting.
The inclusion of different creatures
A Discovery of Witches is so unique because it builds this world with different creatures all coexisting within the real world amongst humans. It's witches, vampires, and daemons. Humans come in a bit later in the story. But when we first start out, it's these three supernatural beings who are the focus. And they have a dilemma.
For some reason they don't understand, their abilities as supernatural beings are starting to weaken. But just because they all have a common goal of trying to figure out what's going on, after all each of these beings has something to lose, that doesn't mean they all get along and work together effectively. It's actually quite the opposite which makes for another intriguing piece in this tale.
Supernatural politics
There's something called the Congregation where two representatives from each species holds a seat. These are the people who basically make the decisions in the magical world, and there's this whole world of supernatural politics that's woven into the story. It's another intriguing element that I really enjoyed. And of course just as with regular politics, you can expect to see those who are there for selfish reasons, those who are biased to their own kind, and also those who want to keep the peace. What else is new?
Without giving away spoilers, the story all starts with Diana who is a witch who has tried to reject who she is all these years. But when she's at an Oxford library for research and comes across something called the Book of Life, all eyes are suddenly on her because no one - not a vampire, witch, or deamon - has been able to call the book at the library no matter how hard they've tried. This sets her on the path working with Matthew, even though vampires and witches do not get along - and also causes the other creatures to basically go after her.
These are just three reasons why A Discovery of Witches is the next show you should check out on Netflix. There's so many other reasons why this series is great, but I think you get the gist! I'm sure you're intrigued now, right? All three seasons of A Discovery of Witches are now streaming on Netflix.
