Have you heard the exciting but bittersweet news out of Poguelandia? Outer Banks season 5 is happening! But there's a catch...

On Nov. 4, Deadline shared the announcement that the popular Netflix original series has been renewed for season 5, which will be the final season of the popular teen adventure drama series. As previously said, it's exciting that we get to go on another adventure with the Pogues, but it's bittersweet that it's the last one.

The Outer Banks season 5 news was revealed two days after the cast gathered for Poguelandia: An Outer Banks Experience in Santa Monica, California on Saturday, Nov. 2. The second edition of the fan festival featured live performances by Jungle, GloRilla, and Remi Wolf and features appearances by cast members the entire main cast of Pogues and Kooks.

Outer Banks will end with season 5

As of the Outer Banks season 5 renewal on Nov. 4, various details about the season are still to come, though we can expect the season to again contain 10 episodes like the past four seasons and make its premiere sometime in 2025. OBX fans will have a better idea of what to expect from the final season when the second part of season 4 premieres on Thursday, Nov. 7.

In a statement from co-creators and executive producers Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke shared by Deadline, the three OBX masterminds shared that from the beginning of conceptualizing the series, they envisioned it as a five-season story, and beyond their wildest dreams, they were able to tell that complete story after a majorly successful run.

"Now, with a little sadness, but also excitement, we’re putting Season Four behind us, and are turning to Season Five, in which we hope to bring our beloved Pogues home in the way we imagined and planned years ago. Season Five will be our last season, and we think it will be our best yet. We hope you'll join us for one more paddle out to the surf break."

Ahead of season 4's release, there seemed to be a growing concern that Outer Banks could be reaching its natural end as its cast of rising continues to branch out with new projects. Madelyn Cline even commented on the "sense of looming finality" after wrapping production on season 4. All in all, it's the perfect time for the Pogues to hang up their hats after one last adventure.

In season 4, the Pogues begrudgingly returned to the "gold game" after cashing in on their earnings and creating their own paradise. When financial troubles inspire them to accept a mission hunting Blackbeard's treasure, they encounter new dangers and enemies, learning shocking family secrets about one of their own along the way. Part 2 continues the unexpected story.

Poguelandia's second fan experience was announced by Netflix and the cast on Oct. 16 and had fans guessing that a renewal could once again be revealed during the festivities. In February 2023, the cast was on hand to announce the season 4 renewal at the Poguelandia festival ahead of the season 3 premiere. History nearly repeated itself, though that looming sense of finality is here.
