Have a good time all of the time one more time? That's what it sounds like from Outer Banks star Madelyn Cline.
On the same day we saw a new teaser for OBX season 4 coming this fall, C Magazine published an interview with Cline. In the interview, Cline opened up about her time on Outer Banks, what the time on the show with the cast and crew has meant to her, and how she feels ready to move on to other projects.
"I’ve spent the better part of six years with this cast and crew. I feel like I had my unofficial college years with them. They’ve seen me through so much. But wrapping up this season, there was a sense of looming finality. The timing is right. I feel ready to differentiate myself, to explore new spaces and have some wonder about stories that I haven’t been a part of telling."
I can hear the panic from Outer Banks fans from here!
Outer Banks season 4 premieres on Netflix sometime this fall. The release date for the new season has not been announced, but it should be announced soon.
It's hard to say if Outer Banks season 4 is actually going to be the final season or if Cline is speaking about herself, her journey on the show, and what she thinks is in store in the future. Netflix has not commented on the future of the series beyond season 4, but the creative team has made comments about the series running for four or five seasons in the past.
Ultimately, I would be a tad surprised if Outer Banks season 4 is the final season of the series. Netflix typically likes to send off its biggest shows, so it makes more sense that Outer Banks season 4 would set up a fifth and final season of the series. That's just speculation based on how Netflix has done business in the past. There's no doubt that Outer Banks' popularity is at an all-time high after the third season.
It makes total sense why Cline and the rest of the cast would feel this way, though! For the young cast, Outer Banks has been their "big break," so to speak, and their lives have changed, personal and professional, have likely changed drastically since the series began. Filming a 10-episode TV season is not easy, and it takes a lot of time, energy, and effort to do that every 12-18 months. It also means that these performers have to turn down many other opportunities. It seems like, based on the comments, that Cline is ready to take on other challenges.
In the first paragraph of the story, a "fourth and perhaps final season" of Outer Banks is mentioned.
Now, until Netflix says so, Outer Banks isn't ending after season 4. The "looming finality" Cline mentioned may be about the next season of the series. We all know the first three seasons wrapped Outer Banks' central mystery. The show is probably on the back nine unless they find to introduce another three-season treasure hunt in season 4. But, is this the end? I'm predicting now, but time will tell.
I'll continue to have a good time all the time AT LEAST one more time.
