After a painfully long wait, One Piece is finally back with a brand-new season on Netflix! All eight episodes of One Piece season 2 are now available to watch on the streaming platform, and this installment definitely isn't one to be missed.
The long-awaited second season picks up just where the first season left off. After defeating Arlong and his all-fish-man crew, the Straw Hats set their sights on the legendary Grand Line, a vast and perilous ocean where every wave carries danger, adventure, and the promise of the unknown. The main goal is still the same for Luffy. That's to find the legendary treasure known as the One Piece and claim the title of King of the Pirates.
But the journey has only just begun for the Straw Hats. One Piece season 2 plunges the crew into uncharted waters, introducing islands teeming with strange creatures and challenges that test not only their strength but their determination. Along the way, they also encounter allies with remarkable stories. In fact, there's one particular character who joins the crew later on in the season. This new character from the manga is so important to the hit fantasy adventure series that he basically gets his own episode in the second season to explain his backstory.
After watching One Piece season 2 in its entirety, I'd have to say that particular episode hit me the hardest. It's not that One Piece hasn't had its emotional moments, but that episode definitely tugs at the heartstrings the most. Honestly, I'm not sure if it'll ever be topped.
Major spoilers are ahead from One Piece season 2 episode 7!
One Piece season 2 episode 7 will leave fans in tears

The seventh episode of One Piece season 2 is all about Tony Tony Chopper's tragic backstory. That's what makes it so sad. In the previous episode, we meet Chopper for the first time. He's a tiny, blue-nosed reindeer, working for Dr. Kureha as her apprentice and assistant at Drum Island. What's really unique about him is that he can speak and think like a human. But it's not until episode 7 that we truly understand the depth of his loneliness and the struggles he faced growing up.
Chopper’s early life was marked by isolation and rejection. Born as a reindeer with a bright blue nose, he was immediately ostracized by his herd. He only became more of an outcast after accidentally eating a Devil Fruit that granted him human intelligence, speech, and the ability to transform into multiple forms. While this gave him extraordinary abilities, it also deepened his sense of loneliness. He could no longer relate to other reindeer.
However, everything changed when he met Dr. Hiriluk during the Great Doctor Hunt at Drum Island. Dr. Hiriluk was a kindhearted and eccentric physician who, while fleeing from King Wapol's men, encountered an injured Chopper in the woods. Seeing past Chopper’s unusual appearance, Dr. Hiriluk took him in and treated him with the kindness Chopper had never experienced before. He became not just a mentor, but the first figure in Chopper’s life to show him unconditional love and acceptance. He gave Chopper his name, a purpose, and even a red top hat.
Under Dr. Hiriluk’s guidance, Chopper also began to learn medicine and the values of compassion, courage, and hope. But happiness was fleeting. Dr. Hiriluk soon fell gravely ill, hiding the severity of his condition from Chopper to protect him from worry. Chopper eventually discovered the truth and set out on a perilous quest to find a rare, rumored cure-all mushroom. But tragically, he discovered too late that the mushroom was poisonous. Knowing what Chopper had done with the best of intentions, Dr. Hiriluk ate the mushroom anyway.
Shortly after, he would meet his demise while confronting King Wapol at Drum Castle. Chopper was then left in complete devastation. However, Dr. Hiriluk’s dream lived on. After his death, Dr. Kureha took Chopper in and continued teaching him the practice of medicine.
Personally, episode 7 ended up being my favorite episode of the entire season. I already knew Chopper’s backstory from the manga and the anime, but seeing it brought to life in the live-action series made the emotional weight hit even harder.
The way the episode shows his loneliness, his bond with Dr. Hiriluk, and the heartbreaking moments that shaped him really stuck with me. By the time the episode wrapped up, it was hard not to feel emotional about everything Chopper had gone through. In my opinion, it’s easily one of the most powerful and heartfelt episodes the series has delivered so far.
