What was one of Netflix’s most highly anticipated releases of 2023 is now out. One Piece season 1 was released on Netflix on Aug. 31, and most people aren’t wasting any time starting the new fantasy adventure series. So much happened over the course of the first season, but nothing topped the exciting, action-packed season finale!

Monkey D. Luffy and the rest of his Straw Hat Pirates crew are faced with their most powerful foe yet in an epic battle. It’s Straw Hat Pirates against the Arlong Pirates, and only one pirate crew can come out as the winner. Arlong is the ruthless and powerful leader of the Arlong Pirates, and he’s not one to be messed with unless you’re looking for a serious challenge.

He’s a sawshark fishman, and his hatred for humans is what fuels his actions. He’s tired of feeling inferior to humans and being discriminated against, so he makes it his goal to one day conquer the entire East Blue and gain total supremacy over his rivals.

But his plans are put on pause when enthusiastic teen pirate Monkey D. Luffy makes his presence known around the East Blue and ultimately challenges him and his fishmen to a duel. So, who wins: the Straw Hat Pirates or the Arlong Pirates? Find out below.

Spoilers ahead from One Piece season 1.

Do the Straw Hat Pirates defeat Arlong in One Piece season 1?

If you read the manga or watched the anime series, you’d already know the answer to this question. But yes, Monkey and his pirate crew defeat Arlong and his fishmen crew in the One Piece season 1 finale. While Monkey fights Arlong one-on-one in the map room of Arlong Park, Zoro, Sanji, and Usopp fight Arlong’s men outside.

Monkey tries to use his different fight moves on Arlong, but none cause serious damage. He quickly realizes that Arlong is too powerful, so he has to go about defeating him another way. He starts destroying Arlong Park by knocking down the different pillars in the room. He even gets Arlong to help by standing in front of the pillars and moving once Arlong tries to throw a punch.

Meanwhile, Zoro, Sanji, and Usopp finish defeating Arlong’s crew outside and Nami joins them. They watch as the map room starts to quickly crumble. Back in the map room, Monkey uses his finishing fight move, Gum Gum Battle Axe, and completely destroys Arlong Park and defeats Arlong.

One Piece on Netflix: What are the Straw Hat Pirates goals?

While on the Going Merry traveling to the Grand Line, the Straw Hat Pirates gather around to do a cast-off ceremony where they all mention their goals.

Here’s each Straw Hat member’s goal:

  • Sanji – Find the All Blue
  • Nami – Draw a map of the world
  • Zoro – Be the world’s greatest swordsman
  • Usopp – Become a brave warrior of the sea
  • Luffy – Be King of the Pirates

How much is Monkey D. Luffy’s bounty in One Piece season 1?

After Vice Admiral Garp lets Monkey and his pirate crew off easy, Captain Nezumi questions his actions but he’s then knocked out by Nami with her bo staff. Later, while everyone celebrates their victory over defeating Arlong and his crew, Koby approaches Monkey with a wanted poster with his face and name on it. He explains to Monkey that putting his face on a wanted poster was Nezumi’s last act of revenge. Monkey’s bounty is revealed to be $30,000,000 berry, making him have the highest bounty in the East Blue.

Who is the mystery person in One Piece season 1?

In the last scene of the first season, a mystery person sits at a table looking at Monkey’s wanted poster. The mystery person then puts their lit cigarette on Monkey’s eye on the poster, ultimately burning it up. We never see the person’s face, but we have an idea of who this person could be. It’s a character we haven’t met yet in the live-action series. It’s most likely Smoker, a powerful Marine captain. We meet him in the Loguetown arc in the One Piece manga series. The first season of the live-action series ends with some of the Loguetown arc covered, so if there is to be a second season, we’ll most likely be introduced to him.

One Piece season 2: Where could the Straw Hat Pirates be headed next?

Note: As of Aug. 31, One Piece has not been renewed for a second season.

At the end of the first season, the Straw Hat Pirates are back on course and headed to the Grand Line, but Nami notices something strange on the map. The map shows a river going up a mountain, which if you read the manga would be called the Reverse Mountain. It’s one of the entrances to the Grand Line.

There’s an arc in the manga where the Straw Hat Pirates make their way to the Reverse Mountains, so this could be where they’re headed next in a potential second season. However, we believe their first stop will be Loguetown and then they’ll make their way to the Reverse Mountains. This is the way the manga goes.

One Piece season 2: Will Alvida and Buggy form an alliance?

At the end of One Piece season 1, Buggy sits alone in a bar and looks at Monkey’s wanted poster. He speaks out loud and says that he’s going to kill Monkey. Alvida then speaks up and says she’ll kill him if he doesn’t. They look at each other and smile. I don’t know about you, but it looks like they’ll most likely team up in the future. And if you read the manga, this eventually happens. Buggy and Alvida form an alliance to take Monkey down. We’ll probably see this happen in a potential One Piece season 2.

Which parts of the manga could One Piece season 2 cover?

The first season covers almost the entirety of the East Blue Saga, the first saga of the manga. It ends with only some of the Loguetown Arc (the sixth and last story of the East Blue Saga) explored. If there were to be a second season, it could begin with finishing up the Loguetown arc and continuing on to the Arabasta Saga, the second saga of the manga. This would make the most sense if the creators wanted to go in the order of the manga series instead of jumping around. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens, though.
