Next week might be massively important to future Netflix stock

This is going to be fun.

Netflix never relaxes. OK, sure. Maybe once a year during Christmas week the streaming giant gives us a bit less of new shows and new movies. The people who run the service are not stupid. They know that normally fewer people have time to sit and watch. 2024 is different, though.

For the first time of likely many years to come, Netflix will be showing NFL games on Christmas Day. The games will feature Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Baltimore Ravens versus the Houston Texans. The question is whether the streamer can pull off broadcasting the games without any glitches.

Netflix is beginning to be huge in the sports world. Besides the NFL games, the streaming service also will be showing FIFA's Women's World Cup in 2027 and 2031. The problem is that Netflix has yet to prove it can show a high-quality live sports event. It tried to do so when Jake Paul fought Mike Tyson in November, and that airing was full of bandwidth issues.

Netflix is going to be a destination streamer for NFL fans (and Squid Game fans) during the week of Christmas

If the same holds true during the NFL games, the powerful sports league might re-think showing games on the streamer in the future. Netflix is set to show Christmas Day games in 2025 and 2026, too, but another event that is filled with glitches is going to make Netflix look like it cannot pull off live streaming for sports.

The flip of that could be true, too. If the NFL games go off without a hitch, then more important sports leagues could be interested in streaming. This might mean one of the European soccer leagues wants to use the streamer to show its product. This would mean more opportunities for fresh eyes on the sport, and ease of viewing for people who already love the sport.

If good things happen on Christmas Day for the NFL games that is going to mean good things for Netflix overall. This likely includes a raise in the streamers stock rates, too.

But the huge week for Netflix doesn't stop with the NFL games. If you are a Squid Game fan then your long wait for season two is almost over. The new season will be available on December 26. The third and final season of the popular show is supposedly going to come in 2025, but there is no firm release date yet.

Still, if you love Netflix (and we know you do) then this is going to be a fun week for you. Tune in to the NFL games on Christmas (including a halftime show of the Ravens and Texans game that will feature Beyoncé), and then stay up to the early morning hours on Boxing Day to catch the new season of Squid Game. You will not be disappointed.
