Squid Game, Emilia Pérez, and the full list of Netflix's 2025 Golden Globe nominations
By Reed Gaudens
The awards season rush has finally begun on Monday, Dec. 9 with the first major nominations announcement of the 2025 film and television award show circuit. Bright and early as always, the Golden Globes nominations were revealed and previewed honors for some of the year's biggest releases in movies and television. Netflix walked away with a stunning 36 total nominations.
Emilia Pérez proved the strongest contender with a whopping 10 nominations, which was enough for the film to make history as the musical or comedy nominee with the most nominations in a single year. The movie scored dual Best Picture nominations in the musical or comedy and non-English language categories, while landing three acting nominations for its trio of actresses.
In addition to Emilia Pérez earning most of the love for Netflix movies, Angelina Jolie and Glen Powell were also recognized for their performances in Maria and Hit Man respectively, and Netflix nabbed a nod in the animated movie category for the upcoming Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl. But television was where Netflix grabbed the most attention from the Golden Globes.
Netflix received 36 Golden Globe nominations this year
A staggering five Netflix shows received three nominations each, and that list includes Emmy winner Baby Reindeer, The Diplomat, Nobody Wants This, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, and Ripley. Each show itself was nominated for the top prize in its genre category and two performers were nominated for all five shows. (See our picks for the year's best performances on Netflix!)
Additional performances from Netflix shows were recognized, including Keira Knightley for the new hit spy drama Black Doves, Ted Danson for the spy comedy A Man on the Inside, and Sofía Vergara for her Emmy-nominated role in Griselda. Netflix even found three of its stand-up comedy specials from top comedians Adam Sandler, Ali Wong, and Jamie Foxx nominated.
However, there's one nomination that made have some people scratching their heads. How was Squid Game able to be nominated if the second season hasn't even been released yet? While season 2's set to premiere on Dec. 26, over two weeks removed from the Golden Globes announcement, Deadline reveals the show was eligible and provided in advance for voters.
Beyond Netflix, the Golden Globes nominations also included some of the year's most talked about movies and shows such as Wicked, Challengers, Shōgun, The Penguin, and more. Selena Gomez even landed a second acting nomination for her role in Hulu's Only Murders in the Building. It's an exciting crop of nominees that will make for an excellent ceremony on Jan. 5 on CBS.
