Netflix set to adapt Ali Hazelwood's steamy romance novel Deep End and I'm already fanning myself

Netflix once again has book lovers sated, as another new major book adaptation is coming from a popular author.

Deadline reported in July 2026 that the steamy romance novel Deep End, by Ali Hazelwood, is getting the Netflix adaptation treatment.

For those who don’t know, the book mainly follows a college diver and a swimmer as they explore a sexual relationship while also dealing with their own personal lives within school, their professional futures, and more.

Laura Kosann is set to write the script. Shawn Levy and Dan Levine will co-produce the film with production company 21 Laps, and Alex Cooper and Matt Kaplan will produce with Unwell Productions. Ali Hazelwood will also be an executive producer on the film.

The book itself was an instant New York Times bestseller for Hazelwood and became an online sensation overnight. Truthfully, it was only a matter of time before it was adapted. Netflix had already bought the rights to the adaptation before the book’s publication, but now development is officially starting a little over a year and a half after its release.

To me, this is great news. Hazelwood has always been a 50/50 author for me as a book girl, but Deep End was one of those novels that I listened to on audiobook, and let me tell you, it was an experience. I can understand why this is the second one of Hazelwood’s novels to earn that film adaptation, right? Because wowza.

Seeing that this is being made into a movie makes all the sense in the world, and it makes me super curious about what will happen with it and who they will get to star in it.

This announcement is honestly one of many announcements that have been released over the last couple of weeks regarding book adaptations at Netflix. Carley Fortune’s This Summer Will Be Different just began production. There were also two new leads cast in the adaptation of the popular YA book Better Than The Movie.

But this is really par for the course with Netflix, as they have really locked into a lot of adaptations over the last few years or so. One specific one that did really well on the platform was People We Meet on Vacation, a book that was written by Emily Henry. The adaptation was number one on Netflix, so, of course, that paved the way for more Emily Henry adaptations to come our way.

That being said, Netflix isn’t the first place where a Hazelwood novel has been adapted. On Amazon Prime, Hazelwood’s extremely popular novel, The Love Hypothesis, has earned a movie adaptation premiering in September 2026, and fans are very excited. It makes me curious to see which platform will adapt her works better.

Either way, I’m eager to see where they go with this adaptation. I’m still just waiting for The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo to start production whenever that finally occurs. But for now, I’ll stay locked in on some Deep End news and see what happens here.
