Netflix's long-awaited film adaptation of best-selling author Emily Henry's fan-favorite novel People We Meet on Vacation has finally made its premiere. While fans are surely eating up every second of Emily Bader and Tom Blyth as Poppy and Alex, it's natural to wonder what's next when it comes to adaptations of Henry's other beloved best-sellers.
People We Meet on Vacation marks the first of Henry's six adult fiction romance books to hit the screen, but four more are in the works. As Variety revealed on Jan. 8, Henry's books Funny Story and Happy Place are both being adapted into Netflix movies and are now in active development. Both titles were previously announced in 2024, but have now received significant updates.
Back in June 2024, Netflix announced that Happy Place would be adapted into a television series on Netflix, with Jennifer Lopez attached as an executive producer. While Lopez is still on board as an executive producer, Happy Place will now be turned into a movie, and Henry will be writing the script. No casting announcements or production timelines have been revealed yet.
Additionally, Funny Story will also hit Netflix as an original movie. Henry also wrote the script that comes from producers Lyrical Media and Ryder Picture Company. Netflix doubling up on the Emily Henry romantic comedy universe couldn't be more exciting, especially since the author will now have even more creative control over the upcoming adaptations of her works.

Funny Story and Happy Place by Emily Henry getting Netflix movie adaptations
Happy Place centers on formerly engaged couple Harriet and Wyn, as they reunite for a final vacation in Maine with their friend group before their annual summer home is sold. The only problem is that they don't break the news to their friends that they have split in order to maintain the celebratory vibe of the trip. During the Maine getaway, Harriet and Wyn grapple with their pasts and future.
Meanwhile, Funny Story tells the humorously romantic tale of Daphne and Miles, a pair of exes who wind up stranded in a lakeside community together. Once they become friends, Daphne and Miles plot to get back, in some form of the phrase, with their former lovers Peter and Petra. It's an opposites attract kind of love story that's sure to be a fun one to see come to life on screen.
In a statement shared by Netflix, Henry expressed her elations to extend her partnership with the streaming service:
"I genuinely couldn’t be more excited to work on the adaptations of Happy Place and Funny Story with Netflix. The entire team there has been so passionate about, dedicated to, and supportive of People We Meet on Vacation from the jump, and getting to do it all over again — this time writing the scripts myself — has been a thrill. I feel so lucky to have found this home for these films, among people who believe deeply in the necessity and power of this kind of story."
Again, neither film has started the casting process just yet, or at least hasn't start announcing casting additions, but Henry revealed to Variety that she spent the bulk of 2025 writing both scripts. Known for releasing a new book each year since 2020, Henry took time off from writing novels after dropping Great Big Beautiful Life in 2025. Instead, she traveled and focused on screenwriting.
"I kind of crammed as much travel as I could, and then I wrote these scripts, and I wrote some spec scripts just for fun that I’m not doing anything with at this exact moment but I’m going to go back to," Henry told Variety. The best-selling author also admitted that she wrote a script for Great Big Beautiful Life, but she isn't rushing to sell the film rights to her latest book at the moment.
As fans celebrate the release of People We Meet on Vacation, the debut film adaptation of Henry's beloved novels, there's no doubt the dream castings will begin circulating around social media for the next two projects (on top of Book Lovers and Beach Read, which are also in the works, but not at Netflix). Surely, plenty of breakout stars will be vying for the leading roles in Funny Story and Happy Place, and we'll be sure to share all the latest updates!
