If you aren't yet a fan of Tyler Perry's character of Madea and all of her silly situations, you likely don't have time to catch up before the next iteration of Madea drops on Netflix. There are 24 films or plays (that have been recorded) featuring the character.
In other words, if you aren't yet a devotee of Madea, just wait until Madea's Destination Wedding drops on your favorite streamer on July 11 and work backward. That might make for a more interesting experience anyway.
The project is the second Perry and Netflix collaboration for Madea. The first was 2022's A Madea Homecoming. Was it Oscar-worthy? Nope, but that isn't the point. Perry wants to entertain and he has a very long track history of doing just that.
Netflix drops trailer for Tyler Perry's Madea's Destination Wedding
In the new film, Madea and her crew are forced to go to the Bahamas after her nephew, Brian (Tyler Perry plays this role, too), and his ex-wife learn that their daughter has met a rapper randomly on a yacht and the daughter and the performer are now engaged. The wedding is scheduled for two weeks away. Chaos ensues as Madea gets involved.
Perry directed, wrote, produced, and stars in the film, as he always does with Madea projects. The good part is that it makes a through-line through the films and the quality remains high (and the ludicrous events stay consistent).
Perry also uses a lot of the same actors in his Madea films, so there is little need for a new actor to get used to their role. It's almost as if the actors have a second life as a person in Madea's family, which sounds weird but adds to the fun.
Again, don't expect any Oscar nominations for the new film, though Perry is capable of critical success, but, as the trailer below implies, do expect great summer fluffy entertainment. Sometimes, that is all one needs.
