Netflix's biggest show of the summer is just one month away

Netflix's summer lineup has been good so far. We've seen I Will Find You, the biggest Netflix show of the year so far, Avatar: The Last Airbender season 2, and Little House on the Prairie. Ransom Canyon season 2 arrives this week, but Netflix is saving the best show of the summer for last.

Outer Banks season 5 is officially one month away from its release on Netflix. The final season of the Netflix original series hits Netflix on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2026. There's no doubt that this is going to be the biggest Netflix hit of the summer.

After a devastating stretch of losses in the season 4 finale, John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope, and Cleo are back for one last adventure. The group is set on taking revenge against Chandler Groff for killing JJ in the deserts of Morocco. Unfortunately, it looks like that revenge mission might be short-lived, as they're sent back to the Outer Banks shortly after the events of the finale.

We have only seen a brief glimpse of what to expect in the final season, but we know it's going to be worth the wait.

Based on the trailer, it looks like we're going to see a little bit of everything we've loved from this show across the first four seasons. We have an international adventure, treasure hunt, and epic heist in store. Best friends stuggling to stay together while the world is pulling them apart with a side of romance. Will the Pogues finally win this time and keep the treasure? Or was the treasure the journey all along? We'll have to find out on Aug. 20.

Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Chase Stokes, Jonathan Daviss, Carlacia Grant, Drew Starkey, and J. Anthony Crane are back for the final season of Outer Banks. From what we've seen behind the scenes, they'll be joined by a bunch of stars and supporting players from previous seasons. We just don't know how big of a role they will play.

Outer Banks is just the perfect summer show, and it has been since the show premiered in April 2020. Sure, we've only seen one season actually premiere in the summer, and that was back in season 2. But it's just such summer vibes with all the surfing, boating, and more. I'd argue it's even a bigger summer show than The Summer I Turned Pretty, which has been the biggest teen summer show since it premiered on Prime Video.

If you're looking for the perfect summer series, I would highly recommend an Outer Banks rewatch before the final season premieres on Netflix.

The best news of all is that Netflix has scrapped the two-part release for Outer Banks season 5. The fourth season was released in two batches one month apart. This time, we're getting all 10 episodes of Outer Banks season 5 on Aug. 20.

That also means that Outer Banks season 5 is going to be a sprint to the finish. If you're not planning on it, you might want to pull an all-nighter for when the final season drops.
