Netflix adds new seasons of family favorites, gripping new documentaries, and just a bit of romance and drama this week. Some might say it's business as usual at your favorite streamer. I'd say there are gems to be found here.

Whether you're looking for the latest romantic sci-fi movie - and yes, that's a thing - or the next season of an old favorite, Netflix as you covered this week. As always, there are true crime documentaries, shows for the kidlings, and an action movie with guys flexing. Flexing muscles, attitiude, whatever. Expect more than a few of the current top five to get bounced.

Just for the record, two new titles appeared on Saturday. Netflix has a habit of tossing in movies without any notice. This time it was the 1985 hit, Boys on the Side. Girls on a road trip stars Drew Barrymore, Whoopi Goldberg, and May-Louise Parker. Oh, and some dude name McConaughey. The second is the odd and fascinating animated bio of Pharrel Williams, Piece by Piece. Yes, it all about the "Don't Worry, Be Happy" guy, in Legos. And it works. Okay, on to the other new stuff!

Netflix opens with kid stuff and disaster

Let's begin with the pleasant offering. The Creature Cases continues with its fifth season on Monday. You preschooler can follow along as Sam Snow and Kit Casey solve cases all over the world. Tuesday brings the Danish family drama Families Like Ours. Get ready for grief when Trainwreck: The Astroworld Tragedy debuts. It delves into the terrible events of the 2021 concert at which 10 people died from an uncontrolled crowd surge. No, I don't get why this stuff happens either.

Wednesday (the day, not the returning series) is a busy day indeed with five new arrivals. We don't get a new comedy series from Poland every week, so don't miss your chance at Aniela. A high society wife is forced to start over after her husband's scandal. The Brazilian rom-com Cheers to Life takes a decidedly positive approach, as a young woman discovers new family and romance on an international journey to her roots. Looks very sweet, romantic, and...adventurous.

From the sublime we move on to the ridiculous, irl. Take a deep dive - yes, that was intentional - into the tragedy of Titan: The OceanGate Disaster. Just proves that if you have enough money, you can do incredibly stupid things. Follow that up with Cocaine Air: Smugglers at 30,000 Ft., which documents how 700 kilos of cocaine wound up on a small private jet. Paging Walter White to baggage claim...

As for the promised sci-fi romance, this looks very promising indeed. Unlike Passengers, in which Chris Pratt played one of the most disgustiing stalkers ever but the studio was too stupid to understand that. No, we get the real deal in Our Times. Two physicists travel througha wormhole from 1966 to 2025 and find a lot of changes. Not the least is to their relationship. Will love overcome the pull of flying cars? Or at least electric trucks that shut down in car washes for no reason? We'll see.

Thursday brings the second seasons of two popular series. First up, The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish Season 2 . I haven't seen this latest iteration, but the original show on Nickelodeon was a can't miss it hit. On the more adult side, we get FUBAR Season 2, an action comedy starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Monica Barbaro as a father and daughter CIA operative team. Except they didn't know until the first season that the other was in the Agency. Expect several quips per episode.

For action, no chaser, we have Plane, starring Gerard Butler and Mike Colter as a pilot and convicted killer who must yadda yadda yadda to help all the passengers survive a crash and its aftermath. At least this looks like an entertaining variation on the trope. No, really, look:

We get new seasons of two ongoing series on Friday. First up, Rana Naidu Season 2. In the Indian series, Rana is a fixer for the wealthy, but in the new season, he faces problems in his own family. Kings of Jo'Burg Season 3 continues its own family drama. Picture a Sopranos / Stranger Things mashup, and you've got it.

As for that old favorite, there aren't that many shows launching their 21st season. Yet here we are with the 21st season of Grey's Anatomy. Ellen Pompeo is back, having survived her real life encounter with the TSA over some very dangerous sunglower seeds. Seriously, Google it. If there's a season 22, expect a storyline. No trailer; you know what this looks like.
