Who knew Millie Bobby Brown was going to be so terrific? It is easy for a child actor to get locked into a role and never find their way out of it. That is not their fault but the fault of movie studios pigeonholing the actor. Thankfully, Brown has found a way out of that.
Maybe it helps she started with streaming giant Netflix. There are ties between Netflix and big studios, but we cannot assume the studios know what is best. Millie Bobby Brown seems to know what works, though.
So what magic does Brown work on us? What excellence does she bestow? The answers lie within.
What Millie Bobby Brown bits to watch on Netflix and which one to skip
Stranger Things
Watch! Any season, yes. The show might have had some bumps along the way, and a lot of that might have come from the delays between seasons. It is great to build anticipation, but another thing to go past your expiring date when there are so many other shows that draw interest.
Still, the show is simply not the same without Brown playing Eleven. Even at a young age, she brought the confusion and angst that the role needed. She shouldn't have had to be where she was, and her friends knew it. Eleven is still finding her way, as are we with one of the most enjoyable shows in streaming history.
Enola Holmes
Watch! This movie had no business being as good as it was. A different take, based on a book with a different take, on the Sherlock Holmes stories? Laughable. Or maybe the original Sir Arthur Conan Doyle stories of Sherlock were so rich anyone could run with them.
Sure, Sherlock purist might not like a younger sister out-smarting him, but in a film of pure fun it's worth it. Brown is as good in this role as she is in her Stranger Things role. Both are glorious.
Damsel
Skip! Brown is not at all bad in this film. It just seems like a role an up-and-coming actress should play during the time of her making her bones in the film industry. There is predictive action and an overwrought storyline that becomes more boring as the flick grows old, but Brown is good. That is the important part.
Oh? The plot, you ask? Rotten Tomatoes put it succinctly when they wrote, "A dutiful damsel agrees to marry a handsome prince, only to find the royal family has recruited her as a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt." Yawn. But Brown is not..yawnful?
Enola Holmes 2
Watch! OK, fine. The first Sherlock alternative was an accidental success, but so was the sequel to the alternative. The magic is in the cast, most likely. Brown is excellent, but so is Henry Cavill as Sherlock, Helena Bonham Carter as Eudoria Holmes, and Sam Claflin as Mycroft. Brown is the key to the film, but her supporting cast is nearly perfect.
