After dominating Netflix in Stranger Things, Enola Holmes and its sequel, and Damsel, Millie Bobby Brown will be back on the streamer in a big way. Not only with the fifth and final season of Stranger Things make its premiere at some point in 2025, but the young star will again headline another Netflix original blockbuster with the forthcoming sci-fi adventure movie The Electric State.

Based on the graphic novel of the same name by Simon Stålenhag, The Electric State comes from directors Anthony and Joe Russo and writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. The quartet previously worked together on the Avengers movies Infinity War and Endgame, which each grossed well over $2 billion worldwide.

Even though The Electric State was first intended to be released in 2024, the film will now make its streaming debut on Netflix in 2025. On Oct. 17, Netflix announced that the movie will release on March 14, 2025. More than anything, fans of the Russo Brothers and Millie Bobby Brown are excited to finally learn new details about the movie. Here's everything we know so far!

Synopsis

Borrowing the story from Stålenhag's graphic novel, the film adaptation brings the futuristic world to life with incredible imagery from the visionary MCU directors. The Electric State takes place in the '90s, but it's very different version of the decade than in reality. In this version, an orphaned teenager named Michelle temas up with a smuggler and some robots to track down her missing brother. Their adventure takes unexpected turns as they explore unknown lands.

Take a closer look at the full synopsis via Netflix's press release:

"The Electric State is a spectacular adventure from the directors of Avengers: Endgame set in an alternate, retro-futuristic version of the 1990s. Millie Bobby Brown stars as Michelle, an orphaned teenager navigating life in a society where sentient robots resembling cartoons and mascots, who once served peacefully among humans, now live in exile following a failed uprising. Everything Michelle thinks she knows about the world is upended one night when she’s visited by Cosmo, a sweet, mysterious robot who appears to be controlled by Christopher — Michelle’s genius younger brother whom she thought was dead. Determined to find the beloved sibling she thought she had lost, Michelle sets out across the American southwest with Cosmo, and soon finds herself reluctantly joining forces with Keats (Chris Prat), a low-rent smuggler, and his wisecracking robot sidekick, Herman (voiced by Anthony Mackie). As they venture into the Exclusion Zone, a walled-off corner in the desert where robots now exist on their own, Keats and Michelle find a strange, colorful group of new animatronic allies — and begin to learn that the forces behind Christopher’s disappearance are more sinister than they ever expected."

The movie has also been described to have comedy elements, which will set it apart from Netflix's other popular sci-fi movie Atlas, which also featured on sentient robots. Brown and Chris Pratt will certainly make for an unexpected but brilliant onscreen duo, as they both have comedy chops, drama talents, and expertise starring in larger-than-life sci-fi movies.
