Leanne star isn't giving up hope on beloved actor's return in possible season 3

Leanne season 2 gave the titular character's love life an unexpected twist, but if the sitcom's star has it her way, this fan-favorite guest actor will be back in the future.

This post contains spoilers from Leanne season 2 from this point forward.

Netflix's hit original sitcom Leanne returned for its second season and gave fans quite the surprise. Despite ending the first season in a relationship with her FBI agent boyfriend Andrew (Tim Daly), Leanne (Leanne Morgan) winds up single. When Andrew proposes to her, Leanne realizes that she's not quite ready to get married again without reveling in her independence.

Of course, Leanne and Andrew going on a break meant that Tim Daly had considerably less screen time in Leanne season 2 than he did in the first season. As a veteran actor on the small screen, he's one of the sitcom's most beloved guest stars, and instead of recurring in the series like in its debut season, Daly only had a couple limited appearances. Morgan knows how fans are feeling.

Leanne Morgan wants Tim Daly back in the show, too

Following the release of Leanne season 2, Morgan has spoken in various interviews about her feelings toward Leanne and Andrew's relationship, advocating for Daly to make his return should Netflix renew her sitcom for season 3. The only problem is that Daly and his real-life wife Téa Leoni are prepping their own sitcom Newlyweds for its premiere on NBC in October.

In an interview with Decider, Morgan jokingly shared her feelings on Daly's new sitcom and doubled down on her desire to bring him back to Leanne in the future: "It made me mad. But then I thought, ‘They better let my boyfriend come back to me, honey, because he’s my boyfriend!'"

However, on screen, Andrew isn't actually Leanne's boyfriend. After Leanne turned down his proposal and offered to go on a break, he reciprocated a similar response to the one she initially gave him about popping the question. He needs to think about it. By the end of season 2, Leanne has gone on a date and grappled with a renewed crush on her ex-husband Bill (Ryan Stiles).

Morgan also spoke to Decider about the realism behind Leanne and Bill's continued relationship in the second season. The comedian said Bill's "always gonna be hanging around" because their lives have been and continue to be interconnected after 30 years of parenting together and now being grandparents. But could something happen between them romantically in season 3?

"I hope whatever happens with Bill, if something, if that’s over, honey, I hope Leanne’s still dating. In real life, if something — God forbid, if Chuck Morgan left me — I’d be dating, honey. I’ve loved men all my life. And I’m telling you, Tim Daly’s got his own sitcom coming on NBC, but he can still be my boyfriend," Morgan joked about the state of Leanne's love life moving forward.

There's no real answers quite yet about what the writers might have in store for Leanne if Netflix renews the sitcom for season 3, but it's crystal clear that Morgan is definitely pulling for her character to end up with Daly's Andrew. Can you blame her? She might be slightly teasing the potential of something happening with Bill, she isn't giving up hope on Tim Daly's comeback.

Watch Leanne only on Netflix.
