Leanne season 2 unexpectedly sidelined Tim Daly and 2 more supporting stars

After waiting for Leanne season 2 since the first season made its debut on Netflix last summer, the sitcom from Leanne Morgan and Chuck Lorre has finally returned. It's been one of the most highly anticipated Netflix comedy releases of 2026, and while there are fewer episodes in the follow-up season, there are the same amount of laughs, maybe even more!

But when fans begin watching Leanne season 2, a decrease in a certain star's screen time will be hard to ignore. Last season, Morgan's titular character began dating Andrew, a handsome FBI agent played by Tim Daly. Leanne and Andrew's relationship quickly began getting serious in a way that signified that he could have a pretty big role in the second season. Well, that's not the case.

Daly's appearances as Andrew in Leanne season 2 are limited, which is explained in the series by the trajectory of his relationship with Leanne. Andrew asks Leanne to marry him, and though she still loves him, she isn't sure she wants to rush right back into another marriage without exploring the possibilities her newfound independence can provide. Being so, the couple takes a break.

Why Tim Daly isn't in most of Leanne season 2 as Andrew

Once Leanne and Andrew begin taking the break in their relationship, Daly's appearances in the 10-episode season are significantly decreased. Considering he was featured in six of season 1's 16 episodes, his absence is felt in season 2. It's not unreasonable that Daly wouldn't be onscreen as Andrew because he's not a series regular and his role revolves around Leanne.

Daly's role being downsized in season 2 could have something to do with his upcoming NBC sitcom Newlyweds, which he stars in with his wife Téa Leoni. The series was ordered in January 2026, with the taping of the pilot episode likely conflicting with production on Leanne. His availability could have be impacted by his new role. Newlyweds makes its premiere on Oct. 23 on NBC.

While fans might have been missing Daly in season 2, his real-life sister Tyne Daly made a cameo appearance in an episode. She's unrelated to Andrew and pops up as a character Leanne meets while out and about and trying to be on her own. Let's just say she's not the most successful when it comes to dining alone. She's a natural born chatterbox who can't help but make new friends.

However, Tim Daly isn't the only Leanne star whose appearances are significantly decreased in the second season. Leanne's own children, Tyler and Josie, who were played by season 1 season regulars Graham Rogers and Hannah Pilkes, are hardly in the new episodes. Rogers makes the most appearances, since he works with his dad Bill (Ryan Stiles).

But Pilkes makes only one appearance as Josie, and it's in a flashback sequence toward the season's end. With its second season, the sitcom seemingly made a conscious effort to refocus the stories on Leanne, her sister Carol (Kristen Johnston), and their parents Mama Margaret (Celia Weston) and Daddy John (Blake Clark). Stiles also maintains regular appearance as Leanne's ex-husband.

If Leanne season 3 happens on Netflix, there's a chance that Daly could make his return as Andrew. Morgan told TV Insider that she told the writers that Leanne and Andrew's relationship isn't over. "He’s still my boyfriend, darn it. I’m tickled for them. I love them and I love Téa — she’s a girl’s girl and darling. But he’s my boyfriend." We'll have to wait and see what the future holds.
