Did you hear the good news, Heartbreak High fans? The third and final season has officially started filming! After Netflix renewed the Australian teen series for season 3 back in May, cameras began rolling on the highly anticipated final chapter in November 2024. It's almost time to return to Hartley High for one last round of teen angst.

Based on the 1990s Australian teen soap of the same name, the updated reboot version of Heartbreak High made its premiere on Netflix in September 2022. The second season arrived in April 2022 ahead of the renewal of the third and final season. With production gearing up toward the end of 2024, the last season should release sometime in 2025.

As fans begin to anticipate what's to come in season 3 following the season 2 cliffhanger, the cast and series executive producer chatted with The Hollywood Reporter to preview the process of creating the final season. So far, it sounds like we have a very promising last hurrah in store, especially with the executive producer promising a "nice ending."

Going into the final season of any show, fans have a long list of needs and wants they're expecting from the episodes. Heartbreak High executive producer Carly Heaton eases the worries of all superfans by assuring, "And, of course, we’ll be giving a nice ending to all of our beautiful relationships in the show." That's a sigh of relief!

While we might not be left wondering who ends up with who by the time the credits roll on the bittersweet series finale, there could still be some questions left in the air since that's the nature of life. In speaking about what to expect from the final season, Heaton revealed the theme of season 3 will be adulthood, after tackling consent and toxic masculinity in seasons 1 and 2.

Here's what the executive producer shared with The Hollywood Reporter about season 3:

"It is really that coming-of-age story. We are really crossing that threshold with all of our beautiful cast from childhood to adulthood. The unique thing, I think, in Australia, is that idea that at 17 you have to pick a course at university — if you’re going to university — that is very specific and narrow. You don’t have that buffer, like you do in the U.K. or the States, of doing a generalist degree first. There’s a lot of fear and tension around those end-of-year exams everywhere around this country. And [the show portrays] how they deal with it — and [also asks], ‘do you need to have it all sorted out at that age?'"

Netflix previously revealed that the final season would touch on the group's journey toward impending adulthood, though there's a bit more intrigue baked into the upcoming farewell season. According to Netflix's synopsis for season 3, "a revenge prank goes horribly wrong, Amerie and her friends must cover up their secret."

Amerie and the group have a lot on the line, but will they be able to get away with their secret or will the secret come out whether they like it or not? On top of figuring out what to do with their lives and sorting through personal dramas, they have that hanging over their heads. One thing's for sure, though: It's going to be an entertaining season for fans to watch!
