Heartbreak High season 3 is happening on Netflix, but it's not all good news

Netflix just announced Heartbreak High season 3 is officially happening. The network's Twitter account broke the news with a graphic announcing Heartbreak High had been renewed for season 3 on Thursday, May 9.

The second season of the hit Australian Netflix series premiered on April 11, and it's been the No. 1 show in Australia since its premiere. It's also doing quite well on the global lists, too. According to the Netflix press release, the series has been a Netflix Top 10 staple in the first three weeks after the season 2 premiere. That's awesome for this series!

Based on the season 2 ending, I think we all know this series needed a third season!

Unfortunately, it's not all good news. There is indeed some real heartbreak for Heartbreak High. Netflix also announced the third season will be the show's last.

It's always a bummer when a show gets final seasoned at Netflix, but hey, on the bright side, it could have been canceled after season 2. That's happened to more than a few shows with more story to tell!

On the Netflix ANZ instagram, Heartbreak High star Thomas Weatherall, who plays Malakai Mitchell in the series, announced the renewal in a video.

Here's what Que Minh Luu, who is the Netflix Head of Content for ANZ (Australia and New Zealand), said about the renewal, via Netflix:

"She never got the letter - but now we get to see what happens next! Renewing Heartbreak High for its final season is a major point of pride for us at Netflix. It has been a joy to work with the utterly cooked creative minds behind our favourite Aussie YA show and to bring our stories, our culture and our in-jokes to all the fans here at home and throughout the world. See you at muck up day."

Heartbreak High was created by Hannah Carroll Chapman. The Netflix series is based on the 1994 series of the same name. The first season premiered on Netflix in September 2022.

At this rate, we're getting about one season of Heartbreak High about every year, or a little longer. Netflix didn't mention when the cast and crew will begin production, although the press release did mention that it will be filmed in Sydney.

Hopefully, production moves rather quickly and we'll all get to see season 3 on Netflix sometime in 2025! Stay tuned for more news about Heartbreak High season 3!
