Life can be challenging sometimes, and sure, while you might want to hear another murder-mystery podcast, you need to balance that with some laughs. Thankfully, Netflix is going to deliver a bunch of that in the second half of 2025.
There will be a number of series to cheer you up, but the four films below will take up less time and still be the gift you didn't know you needed. The good part is that two of these movies drop this summer.
Are they all Oscar-worthy? Probably not. But they likely will do something even more: They will be entertaining.
Four funny films landing on Netflix in the second half of 2025
Happy Gilmore 2 (July 25)
30 years after the original Happy Gilmore dropped, Netflix fans get a gift from their favorite streamer. No one else can see the sequel except for us. And how can this not be good?
Sandler returns (obviously) as an older but maybe not wiser golfer who wants to get back in the swing of things. Will he battle for a title? Likely, but what elevates the film's gold scenes is the use of real (and really good) golfers.
But you are here for the laughs, and Sandler rarely disappoints in that department. Expect a bunch of silliness, some gross stuff, but ultimately, a movie with some heart.
Cast:
- Adam Sandler (as Happy, of course)
- Julie Bowen
- Christopher McDonald
- Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio (Bad Bunny)
- Travis Kelce
- A lot of guest appearances
A Merry Little Ex-Mas (at some point in the Autumn)
No offense to the cast, but this movie is likely to be pretty fluffy, but isn't that partly the point? It is a Christmas rom-com, so some situations that strain reality are expected. That doesn't mean it won't be entertaining.
The plot revolves around a recently separated couple who are determined to have one last Christmas together to benefit the kids (normally a bad idea). Chaos ensues when the husband brings his new girlfriend to the gatherings. That sounds a bit like Four Seasons, but that was OK too.
Cast:
- Alicia Silverstone
- Melissa Joan Hart
- Oliver Hudson
- Jameela Jamil
- Pierson Fode
Fixed (August 13)
This animated film will not be kid-friendly and will definitely be rated R. Even the title implies there is going to be a lot of sarcasm and crude jokes. Even the animation is slightly primitive, but that's all part of the plan.
This colorful film involves a quick-witted mutt that is about to be neutered. After learning this, he and his pals hatch a plan for one last night of chaos, but also so the dog, Bull (Adam Devine), can proclaim his adoration for the fancy dog next door (Honey, played by Kathryn Hahn). Raunchy fun, but supposedly heart-warming, too.
Cast:
- Adam Devine
- Kathryn Hahn
- Idris Elba
- Fred Armisen
- Bobby Moynihan
My Oxford Year (August 1)
Netflix wants to give you a lot of Sofia Carson. She was in The Life List and Carry-On, which dropped last December on the streaming giant, and also hosted Netflix's live Tudum event at the end of May. She's funny with a lot of charisma.
And yes, the plot of this rom-com seems like a lot of other things on Netflix when an American expat falls in love with someone in their new country, but the source material for this flick is solid. Julia Whelan wrote the novel the movie is based on, and she knows her stuff. So does Carson, so how could this film not be a gem?
Cast:
- Sofia Carson (Carry-On)
- Corey Mylchreest (Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story)
- Dougray Scott
- Catherine McCormack (Braveheart)
- Harry Trevaldwyn (How to Train Your Dragon)
- Esmé Kingdom
- Nikhil Parmar (Gran Turismo)
- Poppy Gilbert
- Romina Cocca
- Yadier Fernández
- Nia Anisah
- Hugh Coles (Baby Reindeer)
