While 2025 has begun with mixed reviews for humanity, Netflix is ready to help that get better. Throughout the year, the streaming giant will give us many films we do not want to miss. Below are just four of those.
Not listed is the Millie Bobby Brown vehicle, The Electric State, which is directed by the Russo Brothers. It takes place in an alternative 1990s when man and machine try to find peace. We mentioned Millie Bobby Brown was in it, right? Oh, Chris Pratt is in it, too.
The truth is that no matter what genre you like, you are going to find something to love on Netflix. The streamer has consistently produced excellence. Who are we to doubt it?
Four Netflix movies being released in 2025 that you will not want to miss
Back in Action (January 17)
Let's begin with the one that is coming up soon. Plus, Cameron Diaz back in an action film? Yes, please. The film also stars Jamie Foxx, Kyle Chandler, and Glenn Close. The cast is can't-miss so how wrong could the movie go?
The plot seems fairly straightforward. Foxx and Diaz play parents who quit the CIA but decided to start a family. You can guess what happens next. They are called back into action (pun intended), and high-jinx ensure. Sounds fun.
Havoc (Date of release still to be announced)
If you like Tom Hardy then you have good taste. While not all the actor's projects turn out to be winners, none of that is due to Hardy's inability to bring high-level entertainment. He is consistently terrific as fans of Peaky Blinders and Batman can attest.
Normally, though, Hardy's characters appear on the wrong side of the law. Not in Havoc. He plays a detective tasked with rescuing a politician's son after a drug deal goes bad. The issue is Hardy's detective begins to see how corrupt the system is. Forest Whitaker and Timothy Olyphant are also in the cast.
Happy Gilmore 2 (TBA)
If you loved the original, which was released in 1996, then surely you will love the sequel. That is the hope for Netflix, of course, as Sandler already has earned his money in the making of the movie. Maybe expectations will be too great for the funny film, but let's hope not.
What the plot is? Who knows and who cares? This is meant for pure entertainment and is almost guaranteed to deliver. Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs will also be involved, and he might be the epitome of the movie. It's all a goof, but a fantastic one.
Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery (TBA)
The Knives Out films have no business being as good as they are. The project almost seemed to happen by accident, and then it found a huge fan base. Plus, the actors appear to really like making the movies because the scripts are usually tight and there is only fun to be had.
The film has a yet-to-be-released plot, but like with Happy Gilmore 2, it doesn't matter. What we know is good enough. The film is directed by Rian Johnson, and the cast includes Glenn Close, Josh O'Connor, Josh Brolin, Heremy Rinner, Kerry Washington, and Thomas Haden Church. Put all those people in a room and have them discuss anything and it would be entertaining.
