Most of us are hamstrung by ideas about what to watch on Netflix by the streamer's algorithm of what we have watched previously. It is meant to help but is often a hindrance. We don't want the same old suggestions every time we get onto the app.
Netflix has over 7,500 titles in its library for the United States alone, so if we constantly see the same 50 titles, we might not know what else is out there. And there is a lot. Of course, Netflix doesn't want to keep any movies or series from you, and its algorithm is trying to help, but it also limits at the same time.
There is good news, though. There are over 36,000 codes that you can add to the end of the URL for Netflix that will help you search more specifically. For instance, if you type in netflix.com/browse/genre/81614959, you will find a search called "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon." If you do the same URL but follow it with 81572628, you will get a section called "Spicy Romance."
Codes will help you find exactly what you want to watch on Netflix
But how would one find all these codes? Well, we have that information for you. Or, well...a site called Netflix-Codes does. The good thing is they break the codes down into categories and then sub-categories. The trick is streaming Netflix on your computer, as it is not as easy to do from the app on your TV or Fire Stick. You might be smarter than we are, though.
You might even find sub-categories you did not know existed. Who knew there were so many "satires" for instance? One might think that those would fall under comedy. But that is the other great thing about the codes. You still get crossover suggestions. A film might show up in several different areas.
Even that is better than going to the same Netflix home screen and seeing the same suggestions for a period of time. Seeing only 2 percent of what your favorite streamer has is no fun. (In our opinion, the Irish movie suggestions need to have a lot more options, however.)
