Shonda Rhimes is a legend. She has brought us such series as Bridgerton, Scandal, and Grey's Anatomy. Her latest for Netflix is called The Residence, and judging from the trailer that dropped Wednesday, we are in for another treat.
The show is a murder mystery set in the White House after the chief of staff is murdered during a White House dinner event. Sounds dramatic, right? Only, the trailer implies we are going to get a whodunnit in the same vein as Knives Out. In other words, there should be a lot of laughs as well.
The series features an ensemble cast led by Giancarlo Esposito and Uzo Aduba. Esposito is seemingly excellent in whatever he decides to do. His character in Breaking Bad is iconic. The odd part is even though he might play a character of pure evil, there is always a hint of a smirk. He is in charge of what is happening and deviously clever about it.
Netflix first look at Shonda Rhimes' The Residence implies the series will be great (of course)
Aduba brings the same kind of greatness that Esposito does. Who can forget how good she was as Crazy Eyes in Orange is the New Black? Again, judging from the trailer alone, she will be terrific in Shonda Rhimes' new series. Is there any chance the show will turn out badly? Hardly.
Aduba (as Cordelia Cupp) plays the detective tasked with investigating the murder, though she is clearly going to have a difficult time getting the staff to cooperate very well. There appear to be conflicts between numerous characters, and everyone is a suspect and trust is an issue.
Randall Park plays an FBI agent (Edwin Park) who is supposed to help Cupp with her investigation, but he seems to be a bit snarky and constantly trying to prove himself. He will likely be a foil for the many other characters.
132 rooms. 157 suspects. 1 dead body.

Speaking of which, there are 157 suspects. Clearly, Netflix viewers are not going to get an episode featuring the storyline of each suspect because that would be a lot of shows. 157, in fact. Or about 20 seasons of The Residence. That isn't going to happen, but let's hope the show is so good that we want that many seasons.
The show is set to premiere on March 20. Only on Netflix, of course.
