Supergirl is one of the newer superhero shows on The CW. The first season aired on CBS but should find a nice home with fellow superhero shows like The Flash and Arrow. The latter are both on this list and now it has some company with Melissa Benoist playing the title character in the newest superhero show.

Benoist plays Kara Zor-El who is the older cousin to Superman but when she left her home planet of Krypton she was forced into the Phantom Zone where time stood still for the 13-year-old girl. Time didn’t stand still on Earth so when Superman rescued her from the Phantom Zone, he was all grown up and didn’t need her protection. He leaves her with the Danvers family who adopts her. The show picks up with Kara now 24 and working for a media conglomerate and she’s learning to harness her powers and be the hero she was destined to be.

If you like Arrow, The Flash and the superhero genre of TV, you’re going to love Supergirl.
