The 100 is set 97 years in the future after Earth was destroyed in a nuclear war and no longer capable of sustaining human life. There are 12 space stations that house the only known survivors of the nuclear apocalypse. Together they form “The Ark” where there is next to zero resources to go around and even less tolerance for any crime.

The death sentences are handed out like speeding tickets but if you’re under 18 you aren’t subject to death (floating) so when The Ark’s life support systems are in a critical state, 100 under-18 prisoners are sent back to Earth to see if Earth is sustainable again.

When they arrive they realize the world they only saw from space isn’t what they were led to believe.
