One is a Netflix show.

It is the weekend, so what should you be watching? You don't want to think about work. You want to sit back and enjoy something wonderful.

Thankfully, there is a lot of relatively new stuff to see, both on Netflix and other streaming services. Most of the below are new, though one is not. Sort of not, anyway.

None will disappoint you, and a couple even won 2025 Academy Awards. There is good stuff here. You just have to watch them for yourself.

What to stream this weekend (March 22-23, 2025)

Anora (Hulu)

Best Picture and all the other good stuff, you should watch this film about sex workers. That is what one would assume based on the acceptance speeches at the Oscars. In truth, the film is so much more.

A sex worker marries a Russian oligarch and then searches for the young man while his parents try to find a way out of paying the young lady. Yep. It is as you just read.

The Residence (Netflix)

How would we not mention this new Netflix/Shonda Rhimes bit of eye candy? An eccentric detective tries to figure out who killed someone at a State Dinner at the White House and it's a comedy? Yes, please!

Uzo Aduba is fantastic as always, and worthy of being the only reason to watch the series. But if you want a life with a tiny bit of mystery, this is the show for you, at least, for this weekend. If there is a season two, there is something amiss at the White House (if you didn't think that already).

Severance finale (Apple TV)

This is one of the best shows on streaming, but it's just kind of hidden on Apple. If the series were on Netflix, it would likely be among the highest globally-viewed shows. A workplace comedy, sure, but done in an entirely different way.

The second season has been as good, if not better, than season one, and the finale should not be missed. While you're on Apple TV+, check out the latest season of Mythic Quest because it is also excellent.

Wicked (Peacock)

This will likely end up on Netflix at some point, as everything does and will. The Best Picture nominee was brilliantly done, and had it been a one-off, it might have still won major awards. The problem is that the film is split into (at least) two parts, and the second part will come later this year.

In other words, you will love what you see on Peacock. But you won't see everything that you need to see.

Dark Winds (AMC+)

Still one of the best lesser-known shows on TV, and you can stream the first two seasons on Netflix. The third starts off just as well. It is not for the faint of heart because there is slow-burn violence, but the acting, character arcs, and brilliance of storytelling in this cop drama are amazing.

Some of the show is even in a different language, and a very cool one. In other words, stop reading this article and go watch Dark Winds.
