Don't worry. We are not here (now) to give you any spoiler alerts on the new Shonda Rhimes-produced Netflix series, The Residence. Why would we do that to you? You should decide to watch or not watch based on your own views. We don't need to give any key plot points away.

Still, if you decide you don't like it or do not want to watch it, just know that you will be going against what the critics think. Oh, wait just a second. That actually makes you want to watch less. Still, who can you trust, right?

The premise of the show goes like this: There is a murder at a State Dinner at the White House, and anyone can be a suspect, and nearly everyone is. This is a comedy, though, so do not be roped into thinking this is another White House drama that forces you to dislike some and know others are not involved. This series will keep you guessing.

Uzo Aduba is at her best in Netflix's The Residence

Oddly, in relation to the critics' scores, the general viewing public has a lesser view of the show. On Rotten Tomatoes, there is an overall critic score of 82, but the general public gives it an average of 65. Still good, but far from great.

On Metacritic, things get even wider apart. The score applied for all the critic reviews is 65. The general audience scores it a 3.2. In other words, if you are a Shonda Rhimes fan, you might not like the show as much as someone who might never have seen one of her great series.

There is one absolute reason to see the show, however, and that is the character of Cordelia Cupp, played magnificently by Uzo Aduba. You might know her best as Crazy Eyes from Orange is the New Black, but she has been a scene-stealer in many other projects as well. The actor is consistently brilliant, and that remains the same in The Residence.

On the page, Cupp is an eccentric DC detective. Aduba gives her three dimensions, however. Cupp is funny, frustrated, and smart. But Aduba gives her life. If you are weighing whether to watch The Residence, do so based on Aduba's talent alone.
