If you thought Avicii: I’m Tim was the only documentary on Netflix in 2024, think again. What is the first thing when music fans think about Avicii? Certainly, it will always and forever be “Levels” that elevated to prominence including the upbeat music featuring Etta James.
Avicii: My Last Show showcases his last live performance at the Ushuaia Ibiza Beach Hotel in Ibiza on August 28, 2016. Avicii, whose real name is Tim Bergling, never performed on tour again ever since prior to his death in 2018.
Fans from around Europe and the world attended the concert to see him for one last time.
Avicii's last dance
He starts off the concert by igniting the crowd with his most notable song, “Levels,” where the crowd becomes ecstatic with the tone of the music. Avicii’s other songs included “Heaven” featuring Chris Martin of Cold Play, “Wake Me Up” featuring Aloe Blacc, “Hey Brother," “The Nights," and many others.
Remixes were also featured, including Bob Sinclair’s song “New New New,” which is often done by EDM artists mixing songs from the U.S. with other EDM background beats.
This documentary was directed by Henrik Burman and produced by Bjorn Tjarnberg, who also directed and produced Avicii: I’m Tim. The last show documentary solely focuses on the concert which only lasts for 30 minutes.
Avicii left a legacy in the music industry both in Europe and the U.S. with a vision that no one had intermixing EDM and lyrics at the same time to bring more excitement and joy. His music gave a strong message of uplift and hope including a positive beat.
Martin and Blacc bought into his vision of mixing EDM mixing with lyrics leading to positive outcomes and the everchanging vision of the music industry.
This is also for fans who attended his last show to reminisce about Avicii’s last dance touring on stage. For the late DJ, he’s accomplished so much during his 28 years on earth including 14 award wins out of 25 nominations.
Avicii's legacy
His innovation and thinking in how he saw music were able to go above and beyond the limits. From Martin’s contribution to the documentary, many artists were willing to take the risk to work with Avicii, which was loved by both the U.S. and European audiences.
From the start of his journey in Sweden to the final music tour in Spain, Avicii had seen his successes and failures where he grew organically as an artist.
Avicii had one thing he carried with him throughout his career which was his passion. Through the ups and downs in his life, he left a legacy that he envisioned from the beginning of his journey.
