The Night Agent season 2 lands first new character (but will Peter trust her?)
By Reed Gaudens
As actors and writers continue to get back to work now that the strikes are over, we’re learning more and more information about the next seasons of our favorite shows. The latest Netflix show to receive an exciting update is none other than The Night Agent season 2, which officially has its first new character and series regular.
Amanda Warren will join the cast as a series regular in season 2 as Peter’s new Night Action trainer and boss Catherine Weaver. She’s a veteran agent of the top-secret program, and now that Peter’s become an official member of the team as of the season 1 finale, he will be working more closely with Catherine in season 2 on his first mission.
Deadline describes Catherine as “smart, private, and determined” and “a fierce defender of her agents.” However, after everything he went through in the first season, particularly by being double crossed by his assumed ally Diane Farr, he won’t be giving Catherine his trust so easily. Look, I can understand where he’s coming from, but Catherine sounds like she can be trusted.
But who are we to doubt Peter’s instincts? He was always right on the money and everyone tried to tell him he was reading too far into things. No matter what, I’m on his side, but I do think he should give Catherine a chance. Of course, we’ll have to wait and see what her character is up to when the second season arrives on Netflix sometime (hopefully!) next year.
Beyond Warren’s casting, additional details about the upcoming season, including the plot and other cast additions (or subtractions) haven’t been confirmed. Deadline does mention that Gabriel Basso will reprise his role as Peter Sutherland, which we already knew, and Luciane Buchanan will return in her role as Rose Larkin, though in what capacity remains to be seen.
Television fans will likely recognize Amanda Warren from the hit HBO series The Leftovers and the Apple TV+ series Dickinson. Most recently, she appeared in the 2023 film The Burial as well as Max’s short-lived Gossip Girl reboot as Camille de Haan and the one-and-done CBS police procedural East New York as Regina Haywood. Over the years, she’s brought her talents to a number of shows on the small screen, including The Good Wife, This Is Us, Black Mirror, and many more.
Following Warren’s casting, fans should gear up for even more The Night Agent casting news. The second season will surely feature a number of new characters, given more than a few of the cast members won’t be returning, and others probably won’t be relevant to the new story. Shawn Ryan, the series’ creator, has stated that each season will feature a standalone story for Peter, which means we can deduce the character carry over will be minimal at best.
If the second season is anything like the first, and I have a sneaking suspicion it will be even better, there will be a handful of characters we won’t be able to read until the very last minute. For all we know, Catherine could be the one to turn on Peter again, or she could actually be one of the only people to look out for him. I’m so excited to see what other new characters and cast members will join the mission in season 2, and we’ll be sure to share them with you as they’re announced.
