5 Netflix shows that will probably be final seasoned in 2024
By Reed Gaudens
As much as we would love for all of our favorite shows to live forever, it’s simply not possible. Matters out of the control of the viewer can cause a network or streamer to cancel a show seemingly out of nowhere, but more often than not, as a series gets further along its run, the closer it can get to being hit with a final season.
In 2023, Netflix thankfully renewed a fair amount of its shows, most of which will return in either 2024 or 2025. We already know a handful of shows that will be saying goodbye when they come back, and those shows are: Big Mouth, Cobra Kai, Elite, Mo, Stranger Things, Sweet Tooth, The Umbrella Academy, You, and Young Royals.
Unfortunately, Netflix will surely be announcing more final seasons in 2024, with the likes of Emily in Paris, The Witcher, and even Virgin River nearing the stage where they would be prepping for an endgame (by Netflix standards, at least). Which Netflix shows are the most likely to be final seasoned come 2024? We’re sharing five shows that could be approaching their end.
Emily in Paris
No one wants to see Emily in Paris end less than me. I might be the only one, but I would watch 10 seasons of it so long as Emily Cooper has dramatic misadventures in love happening in Paris. But the fact of the matter is, the series could be nearing its natural end. I wouldn’t be surprised if Netflix opts for season 4 to be its last or if the streamer renews the series for a fifth and final season. Trust me, I would love to be incorrect and see a sixth season, maybe even a seventh, but all of us Emily in Paris fans should start preparing for our girl’s endgame.
The Witcher
If there’s one fantasy show on Netflix that has really set the stage for the genre on the streamer, it’s The Witcher. Henry Cavill led the show for the first three seasons, and Liam Hemsworth will take over the role with the upcoming fourth season in 2024. There have been rumors that Netflix has already been developing a fifth season, which others have indicated could be the final season of the series. We wouldn’t be surprised if an official announcement followed shortly after Hemsworth’s debut.
Outer Banks
Again, no one wants Outer Banks to end less than me. It’s a fun, escapist show that’s exciting to watch no matter what the Pogues are getting up to. But it’s time to face the facts: The show is beginning to approach that time when producing the series gets more expensive and the cast members would want to branch out.
Honestly, it’s unlikely that season 4 would be the last, but it’s entirely possible for Netflix to renew the series for a fifth and final season, which would give the writers time to wrap everything up. Outer Banks isn’t the easiest to film and takes a long time, and with the young cast continuing to rise to stardom, they might start looking to leave Poguelandia by season 5 (or, fingers crossed, season 6).
Sweet Magnolias
It wouldn’t be surprising if some viewers thought Sweet Magnolias season 3 was the final season. I mean, the season finale felt a lot like the storylines were being wrapped up in a way that could, at the very least, double as a series finale in the event Netflix dropped the axe. But with the streamer renewing the romantic drama for a fourth season, the future of Serenity looks bright… for now.
For diehard fans of the series, I’m manifesting a season 5 and 6 double renewal in 2024, which could possibly be the end of the road for the Sweet Magnolias. We’ll see what happens, especially when its own fate could depend on that of Virgin River and the upcoming Ransom Canyon.
Heartstopper
Like Emily in Paris and Outer Banks, my heart truly couldn’t take Heartstopper being final seasoned… though I fear that day could be near. Don’t get it twisted: It’s no fault of the series at all. Netflix’s track record with teen series just isn’t great. Look at Young Royals, for instance. The fan-favorite series will end after only three seasons. Netflix gave Heartstopper a double renewal for season 2 and 3, with the third season coming in 2024. There’s no way season 3 will be the last, which means either two more seasons or — gulp — one more season could be in the cards after Alice Oseman releases the final two books. We’ll find out the show’s fate in 2024!
