Ginny and Georgia season 3 wraps filming, adds new cast members
We have some awesome news about Ginny and Georgia season 3! We have a production and cast update to share with fans!
According to a report from Deadline, Ginny and Georgia season 3 is finally done filming! We'd learned earlier this year from Nathan Mitchell, who also stars in The Boys, that production would be winding down and wrapping on Ginny and Georgia season 3 this fall. Now, it's been confirmed that filming has ended.
Overall, the new season didn't film for very long. Production only just started in Toronto in April, so that was a relatively quick shoot for the new season. Unfortunately, we also know that Ginny and Georgia season 4 was not filmed with season 3. That rumor circulated online recently. Mitchell cleared that up in an interview with Screen Rant.
Here's what Mitchell told Screen Rant:
"What I can say is season 3 is going to be bonkers! I have some great tea that I'm not allowed to spill. But they're going to get whiplash from how much their heads are turning back and forth from surprise It's a great season that G&G has in store for everyone, and I can't wait for them to see it."
But, that's not all! Mitchell also shared a production update on Ginny and Georgia season 4 with Screen Rant. Ginny and Georgia season 4 is officially renewed and already in the works at Netflix. Mitchell shared with the outlet that season 3 and season 4 would not be filmed back to back. He also mentioned that production on season 4 doesn't officially start until 2025.
In addition, Netflix announced two new cast additions in September. According to the report from Deadline, Ty Doran, who starred in Manifest, has joined the cast of season 3, along with Noah Lamanna of Beacon 23.
Back in April, the steamer shared a number of pictures of the cast coming together for the first table read of the season, including a selfie of the title characters played by Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry. It's all smiles before cameras start rolling, but now that they are, we know there's going to be some drama going down this season!
Netflix finally renewed Ginny and Georgia for season 3 in May 2023. It was a terribly long wait for fans of the original series. The second season premiered in January 2023, but fans had to wait until May for the series to be renewed. That almost never happens for huge hits like Ginny and Georgia.
So, why did the renewal take so long?
According to Deadline, the lengthy wait to renewal might have been due to behind-the-scenes friction between new showrunner Sarah Glinski (Degrassi: The Next Generation) and departing showrunner Debra J. Fisher. Fisher served as showrunner for the first two seasons, but will be replaced by Glinski moving forward.
When does Ginny and Georgia season 3 come out?
Despite production ending in September 2024, Ginny and Georgia season 3 will not be released on Netflix this year. We'll be waiting until sometime in 2025 to see the new season. Netflix already confirmed the new season would not be released this year.
With production ending this soon, we shouldn't have to wait too long to see Ginny and Georgia season 3. Lately, Netflix seems to be rolling out its new shows that don't need a ton of CGI or extra steps in post-production about every four to six months.
If that happens with Ginny and Georgia season 3, we should be looking at a Q1 2025 release date. We could see the new season anytime between January and April.
That's our release prediction right now! We'll share more information about the Ginny and Georgia season 3 release when we find out.
Unfortunately, we do not have a release date for the new season yet. We do know that the third season will be released sometime in 2025.
Release Prediction: Early 2025
Ginny and Georgia season 2 ending explained
The second season ends on a cliffhanger with Georgia being arrested for the murder of Tom Fuller at her wedding and then booked into jail. In a previous episode, Georgia murders Tom by smothering him with a pillow until he stops breathing. It’s unclear why exactly Georgia killed him, but our guess is that she wanted to repay Cynthia somehow since she helped block Gil’s apartment application. But now Georgia has to pay the consequences.
Here are some other things that happened in the season 2 finale:
- Max and Sophie seem to break things off for good even though Sophie wants to remain friends.
- It looked like Abby was about to tell Norah about her struggles with body image and having an eating disorder, but Norah was distracted by her boyfriend.
- Georgia opens up to Paul about her criminal past but leaves out the murders.
- Ginny and Marcus decide to be friends.
- Paul tells Gil to stay away from Georgia and the kids, or he’ll make sure he ends up back in prison. This seems to scare Gil away.
- PI Gabriel Cordova reveals his true identity to his boyfriend, Nick. Nick ultimately breaks up with him because he lied about who he was.
What to expect in season 3
There are so many things that could be covered in the third season. Since Georgia was arrested, this will obviously affect Ginny and Austin. Who will watch over them now that their mother is in jail? Ginny and Georgia were on good terms before the arrest, but everything will probably go downhill once Ginny finds out that Georgia did actually kill Tom. Then, there’s Austin. He witnessed Georgia kill Tom and then watched her get taken away by police. This is a lot for a 10-year-old boy to handle. He’ll most likely need to be put in therapy like Ginny.
What about Paul? Georgia’s arrest can’t look good for his reputation since he’s the mayor. Will he decide that it’s too much and divorce her? We also didn’t get to see Cynthia’s reaction to finding out that Georgia killed her husband. I don’t think we saw the last of Gil, either. Now that Georgia has been arrested, he’ll probably return and use her arrest to try to win custody over Austin.
Although we don’t know for sure what Ginny and Georgia season 3 will be about, series creator Sarah Lampert reveals that the creative team already has the third season planned out. Lampert spoke with Deadline and mentioned some of the things she’d like to explore in the third season.
Here’s what Lampert said about Austin’s storyline in the third season:
"“Austin isn’t squeaky clean. He’s a kid, but he stabbed someone in the hand with a pencil, he — way more than Ginny, seems very okay with the fact that his mom’s done all this stuff, he doesn’t seem fazed whatsoever (laughs)… That’s not true. If we get to Season 3, we’ll have to dig deep into what he saw transpire in season two and the emotional ramifications of that.”"
Lampert also mentions how she would like to explore Cynthia’s reaction to Georgia’s arrest.
"Anything could happen. I think that Cynthia in no means wanted Georgia to do that. I think that it would shock her to find out, and obviously we weren’t with her, we don’t know what happened off camera in between that scene that led to the arrest. But that would definitely be something that I think we would want to explore in Season 3."
In an interview with TV Guide back in January 2023, Lampert doesn’t necessarily spoil how Georgia’s arrest will impact her relationship with Paul going forward, but she does tease that it could be the last straw for him. She tells TV Guide that it “would need to be explored in Season 3.”
Also, if you were wondering about Georgia and Joe’s romantic future, Lampert says you’ll have to watch the third season to find out.
Season 3 cast
There isn’t an official cast list yet. However, we have an idea of who could possibly return. Obviously, Antonia Gentry (Ginny), Brianne Howey (Georgia), and Diesel La Torraca (Austin) will reprise their roles as the Miller family.
Here’s who else we believe could return in the third season:
- Jennifer Robertson as Ellen Baker
- Felix Mallard as Marcus Baker
- Sara Waisglass as Maxine “Max” Baker
- Scott Porter as Mayor Paul Randolph
- Raymond Ablack as Joe
- Aaron Ashmore as Gil Timmins
- Katie Douglas as Abby
- Chelsea Clark as Norah
- Mason Temple as Hunter Chen
- Sabrina Grdevich as Cynthia Fuller
- Colton Gobbo as Jordan
- Nathan Mitchell as Zion Miller
- Rebecca Ablack as Padma
- Tyssen Smith as Brodie
- Daniel Beirne as Nick
- Alex Mallari Jr. as PI Gabriel Cordova
- Damian Romeo as Matt Press
- Chris Kenopic as Clint Baker
- Romi Shraiter as Samantha
- Tameka Griffiths as Bracia
- Katelyn Wells as Silver
- Zarrin Darnell-Martin as Dr. Lily
- Vinessa Antoine as Simone
- Nikki Roumel as teenage Georgia Miller
- Kyle Bary as teenage Zion Miller
- Ty Doran as Wolfe
- Noah Lamanna
According to the Deadline report, Ty Doran and Noah Lamanna are the only new cast members confirmed for season 3 so far. But, the report mentioned additional information about the new season will be revealed soon. We're expecting at least a few more cast members added for season 3!
Deadline is reporting Doran's character, Wolfe, is described as "a laid back guy in Ginny’s poetry class who doesn’t particularly like poetry."
Lamanna's character doesn't have a name available to the public yet, but his character is described as "a super smart skateboarder who is friends with Marcus and Silver."
Unfortunately, the total episode count for Ginny and Georgia season 3 has not been revealed. However, seasons 1 and 2 were given 10 episodes each, so our guess is that there will be 10 episodes in the third season. There’s a possibility that Netflix could order more or fewer episodes, but 10 episodes seem more likely.
When it comes to the age rating for the third season, it’ll probably be rated TV-14 like the previous two seasons. It’s rare when Netflix changes the age rating for a show as the seasons go on, and we don’t foresee this happening with the third season. It’s possible but not likely.
Ginny and Georgia season 4 is officially happening at Netflix
Yes, you read that right! A fourth season will be coming to Netflix in the future. On May 17, 2023, Netflix announced the good news. The teen series was officially renewed for a third and fourth season on this date. It’s going to be a while before we learn any new information about the fourth season since the third season hasn’t even come out yet. But, of course, you can count on us to share everything that is revealed and announced.
Netflix has not announced that Ginny and Georgia season 4 will be the final season, so that’s great news for fans who want this show to run for a long time. However, there are a few reasons we’d expect Ginny and Georgia season 4 to be the final season.
For one, Netflix just doesn’t make many shows that last for longer than four seasons, especially not teen shows. There’s only a handful of recent shows that have surpassed three or four seasons on Netflix, so it would be normal for Ginny and Georgia season 4 to be the final season.
As mentioned, Mitchell revealed production on season 4 will be sometime in 2025.
Additionally, Debra J. Fisher, who has since been replaced as showrunner with Sarah Glinski taking over, told TheWrap that they pitched Ginny and Georgia as four seasons to Netflix. She also said that they know where the show is going and what the “end game” will be.
"“We did always know where we wanted to end this season. When Sarah and I went in together to pitch to Netflix, we pitched four seasons, and knock on all the wood. We know where Season 3 begins and ends and we know the end game.”"
So, it’s starting to look like season 4 will be the final season of the series.
