The Watcher

After the massive success of Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan dropped another limited series called The Watcher on Netflix. Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take long at all for the show to find a home on the Top 10 TV shows list on Netflix.

If you’re wondering why the show’s title sounds familiar, it’s probably because you read the 2018 article it’s based on. The Watcher is a mystery-thriller series based on the true story of the Broaddus family but is a fictional retelling. Some events depicted in the show didn’t happen in real life.

The story centers around the Brannock family, who, after moving into their dream home, receive ominous letters from a mysterious stalker calling themselves “The Watcher.” Throughout the show, the family does everything possible to find out who’s behind the creepy letters, such as getting the police involved and hiring a private detective.

The cast is comprised of several gifted actors, such as Naomi Watts, Bobby Cannavale,  Jennifer Coolidge, Noma Dumezweni, Mia Farrow, Margo Martindale, Henry Hunter Hall, Richard Kind, and Isabel Gravitt.

The Watcher is just alright. The reviews were mixed for a reason. If you’ve tired of the common tropes and clichés often found in Ryan Murphy’s projects, you might want to sit this out.
