Only a week has passed since Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story was released on Netflix, and viewership numbers have already come in. And you won’t believe how many people tuned in since its release on Sept. 21!

Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story tells the story of one of America’s notorious serial killers, Jeffrey Dahmer, and the gruesome murders he committed between 1978 and 1991. It’s a limited series that is a fictionalized account of actual events and stars Evan Peters, Niecy Nash, Richard Jenkins, Penelope Ann Miller, Molly Ringwald, Michael Learned, Shaun J. Brown, and many others.

Emmy Award-winning director Ryan Murphy and his longtime collaborator, Ian Brennan, created the show for Netflix. It’s a part of Murphy’s giant five-year deal with Netflix that he signed in 2018. In addition, Murphy’s production company, Ryan Murphy Productions, and Prospect Films produced it.

Although we knew Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story would be coming to Netflix, we didn’t have an exact date. Surprisingly, the streamer announced the release date a week before its release. However, this didn’t stop people from tuning in.

Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story becomes Netflix’s biggest hit since Stranger Things season 4

According to DeadlineMonster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story managed to pull in 196.2 million viewers since its release on Sept. 21. This puts the show in the same bracket as Squid GameAll of Us Are DeadBridgerton season 2 and Stranger Things season 4.

However, it’s important to mention that these shows’ viewership numbers surpassed Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story in their launch period. But the limited series did beat out Shonda Rhimes’ Inventing Anna, which pulled in 195.97 million viewers when it opened, and You season 3, which racked up 179 million viewers.

We can’t compare numbers to Ryan Murphy’s other Netflix productions like The Politician, Hollywood, Ratched and Halston because these shows came out before the streamer changed the way it reports data. But, we think it’s safe to say that the limited series did considerably better than the shows just named.

Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is streaming now only on Netflix.
