In the summer of 2022, Netflix struck gold with a small romantic drama film that became a worldwide blockbuster. Purple Hearts, based on the book of the same name by Tess Wakefield, became an inescapable Netflix movie that everyone had strong opinions about. From its storytelling to demand for a sequel, it’s all been said.

The movie stars Sofia Carson and Nicholas Galitzine as Cassie and Luke, a mismatched pair thrown together by circumstance. Although Cassie and Luke share some extreme fundamental differences in their political views and otherwise, along the course of their “marriage,” the love between the pair becomes real. In between the romantic moments that make some viewers swoon, the movie also grapples with subject matter that understandingly and obviously wasn’t well-received.
