Does Maeve go back to America in Sex Education season 4?

Sex Education season 4 takes place two months after everything that happened in the third season, and our favorite characters are faced with some serious culture shock. If you recall from the season 3 finale, Moordale Secondary School was forced to close after investors pulled all of their funding from the school. In the fourth season, most of the former Moordale students decide to continue their education and finish up their last term at the student-led, high-tech school, Cavendish Sixth Form College. While over in America, Maeve studies at the elite Wallace University.

Unlike her former peers, Maeve enjoys her new school life. She’s studying abroad, making new friends, and doing what she loves. However, she does miss her boyfriend Otis. But although she misses Otis, it’s not enough to make her want to return home. Even after discovering she didn’t get the internship with Mr. Molloy, she still pushes forward and continues her studies in America. It’s not until she finds out that her mother had a drug overdose that she finally takes the next flight back home.

Does Maeve go back to America in Sex Education season 4?

Yes, Maeve returns to America, but it’s not something she initially wants to do. After her mom’s funeral service is over, Maeve decides that she’s going to stay in Moordale and attend Cavendish College. She tells Otis she needs stability and that she misses him, but it’s obvious that there’s more to her wanting to stay.

Later, Maeve and Jean talk about life, and Maeve shares the real reason why she doesn’t want to go back to America. She tells Jean that she really wants to be a writer, but after realizing how competitive the writing field is, and hearing Mr. Molloy talk badly about her writing skills, she doesn’t want to waste her time. However, after Jean gives her some encouraging words, she decides to continue to pursue her dream of being a writer. She shares her decision with Otis, Aimee, and Isaac and then heads back to America.

Once she gets back to Wallace University, things start looking up for her. She receives a call from Goodhart Books and is asked by someone there to read her piece. She even gives Mr. Molloy a piece of her mind. Overall, Maeve’s future looks brighter at the end of the fourth season.
