Lupin season 3 is coming to Netflix at 12:00 a.m. PT on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023! We’ve been waiting for more than two years for new episodes of Lupin, and the wait is finally almost over.
Netflix graciously let Netflix Life watch screeners for Lupin season 3, and the new season is amazing. It’s even better than the first two seasons, and there’s no doubt in my mind Lupin is the best Netflix show of the year so far.
There are seven episodes in Lupin season 3, which is two episodes longer than each of the first two seasons.
Prior to the official confirmation of season 3’s release, Netflix teased a potential release date for the show when it updated the Lupin profile icons on Netflix. Via the show avatars, there were various numbers displayed across the avatar images, those numbers being 3, 1, 0, 2, 5, and 0.
As What’s On Netflix quickly pointed out, the numbers seemed to hint at the season’s release date with the guess of 10/05/23. This date was later confirmed by Netflix officially via a tweet which was paired with an official poster for the new season:
There’s no doubt Lupin season 3 is one of the best Netflix shows coming in 2023.
Lupin season 3 clip
Netflix also shared a new Lupin season 3 clip at TUDUM 2023! In the clip, our hero is on the run. He’s traversing the rooftops while the authorities are right on his tail.
Lupin season 3 clip ends with Assane dangling from the gutters of a tall building. Yikes!
Lupin season 3 trailer
Netflix shared the official trailer for Lupin season 3 about a month before the season 3 premiere. I don’t know about you, but I’m super excited for Assane Diop/Lupin to be back in my life this fall!
Netflix shared the first look at Lupin season 3 in September 2022 during Netflix’s TUDUM event. The teaser trailer, which we shared below, reveals what’s next for Assane Diop (Omar Sy) following the events of the first season.
In the teaser, we see Sy as Diop revealing where season 3 begins and what his mission is for the season:
"“I avenged my father. I had to protect my family. I wanted to stay in the dark, but had to come back into the light. Now, watch me disappear."
Diop is still one of the most wanted men in France, and it appears the country is split on if he’s the hero of this story for taking down a corrupt police chief and a billionaire or if he’s a villain for the crimes he’s committed.
Lupin season 3 cast
Thanks to the teaser, we already know some of the characters who will be back in Lupin season 3. We shared the full Lupin season 3 cast below.
- Omar Sy as Assane Diop
- Soufiane Guerrab as Youssef Guedira, also known as Ganimard
- Ludivine Sagnier as Claire
- Etan Simon as Raoul
- Antoine Gouy as Benjamin Ferel
- Vincent Londez as Captain Romain Laugier
- Shirine Boutella as Lt. Sofia Belkacem
Although they have not been confirmed, we are also expecting to see these characters in season 3 in some capacity:
- Hervé Pierre as Hubert Pellegrini
- Clotilde Hesme as Juliette Pellegrini
- Fargass Assandé as Babakar
- Vincent Garanger as Commissioner Gabriel Dumont
We’re also expecting to see a lot of new characters in season 3. We haven’t seen much confirmed, but we do know that Creator George Kay told Metro there will be new characters but also confirmed the main cast should stay the same.
"‘It’ll be a fresh start in Part 3 with new characters, retaining a lot of the regular cast, but with a new branch of characters.”"
Lupin season 3 synopsis
Netflix shared the synopsis for Lupin season 3, and it sounds amazing!
"Now in hiding, Assane must learn to live far from his wife and son. With the suffering they endure because of him, Assane can’t stand it any longer and decides to return to Paris to make them a crazy proposal: leave France and start a new life elsewhere. But the ghosts of the past are never far away, and an unexpected return will turn his plans upside down."
What is Lupin season 3 about?
At the end of Lupin season 2, investigators, with A LOT of help from Assane were able to collect enough evidence to arrest Pellegrini and Dumont for their various crimes, including framing Babakar Diop for stealing the necklace. Assane finally accomplished his mission: clear his father’s name. In the process, though, he’s created a situation that’s much more difficult to manage.
There’s a manhunt for him in France, and he’s still wanted for his crimes. Unfortunately, that likely means he hasn’t had much contact with his son, Raoul, and Claire.
We also know, thanks to Kay’s other comments, that the new season is turning the page on the story of the first two seasons. We’re getting a new story in season 3 with new characters, and a new mission for Assane. From the teaser, it looks like he’s lying low, but we know things won’t stay that way for long.
Here’s what Kay told Metro about what’s to come:
"‘It won’t be so focused on Babaker [Assane’s late father], even though he will remain an important, emotional crutch in his memory for Assane. It’ll be different stuff, and it won’t be so focused on Pellegrini.’"
Obviously, there’s a lot of inspiration from Maurice Leblanc’s book series and stories about Arsene Lupin. We will likely Assane use Lupin’s tricks from the stories to make moves and get himself out of trouble.
We’ll have more updates about Lupin season 3 coming to Netflix soon!
