The wait for Lupin season 3 is almost over! It’s been more than two years since we’ve seen new episodes of the French Netflix original series, and we have some great news! Lupin is better than ever in season 3. Not only is it better than ever, Lupin is the best Netflix show of 2023 so far.

The Lupin season 3 release date and time is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023, at 12:00 a.m. PT. In France, Lupin season 3 will be available to stream at 9:00 a.m. CEST on Thursday, Oct. 5. You might as well stay up all night or take the day off to watch the new season because it’s great!

Assane Diop (Omar Sy) is back in the new season, and more inspired by Maurice Leblanc’s famous literary character, Arsène Lupin, than ever. Assane’s still on the run after his antics in the season 2 finale, which led to the arrest and prosecution of Hubert Pellegrini. Because of what happened, Assane can’t live a normal life. Raoul (Etan Simon) and Claire (Ludivine Sagnier) are still struggling to move on, and he can’t stay away from them, which puts them all in jeopardy. Assane hatches a plan for them to all be together eventually, but he’s been doing this Lupin thing for too long to too many people. And now, he’s too famous. Luckily, Ben (Antoine Guoy), his best friend and partner in heist, is there to help Assane every step of the way.

Of course, we can’t have a new season of Lupin without the cat-and-mouse game between Assane, aka Lupin, and Youssef Guedira (Soufiane Guerrab), aka Ganimard. Their relationship reaches new heights in season 3.

You’ll see a lot of media outlets tout Lupin as one of the best Netflix original shows. Not here. Lupin is the best Netflix show of 2023 so far. I think it’s actually the best Netflix show running right now. Obviously, Stranger Things, Wednesday, The Crown, Squid Game, Bridgerton, and others can make a strong case. When it comes down to it, those series, while bigger than Lupin, aren’t weaving this interconnected web of mystery and intrigue like Lupin is. They might be more fun, but they are not better than this French Netflix original.

You won’t find better performances, action sequences, and overall story in a Netflix show. Lupin weaves Assane’s backstory and the events of his childhood seamlessly with his story in the present day. It’s one of the most intriguing aspects of the series to me. We get these little memories, basically, and when we see them, they don’t exactly fit in with what’s happening with Assane. By the end of an episode or two, it’s clear why the creative team revealed what they did in the flashbacks.

I loved the first two seasons of Lupin. Each consisted of five episodes and was released in 2021. I’m a huge fan of the heist and mystery genre, and Lupin is the best show that lives in both those genres that I’ve ever seen. Omar Sy is incredible as Assane Diop, and the execution of these heists, his tricks, and how the show plays on viewers’ expectations is spectacular. And, it gets bigger and better in season 3.

There are seven episodes in Lupin season 3, so there are an additional two episodes of watching Assane try to outwit the police and other adversaries. I don’t want to give too much away about what’s next for Assane in season 3, but this season is a change of pace. In the first two seasons, Assane is hell-bent on revenge. He would stop at nothing to put away Pellegrini. That’s not the case in season 3. There is an element of revenge, but it’s not the driving force for Assane moving this story forward.

In season 3, Claire is a more integral part of the story, although not necessarily related to Assane’s story. Claire’s journey in season 3 is much more enjoyable than in the previous seasons. The character is much more well-rounded. That dynamic between Assane and Claire is one of my favorite parts of the show.

There’s still a lot of time left this year, and there are lots of Netflix shows on the way. For now, though, there has not been a better Netflix show this year than Lupin.

Now, we’re just waiting to find out what’s next and if Lupin is returning for season 4. So far, Netflix has not announced plans for another season of the series, but it’s still early. If the show performs well and there’s more to the story, we’ll see another season. If not, this might be the end of the road for Lupin. I hope it gets picked up for another season! It’s an incredible TV show, and I can’t wait to see more.

Remember to watch Lupin season 3 on Netflix starting on Oct. 5! You won’t regret it.
