September is finally here! While summer won’t be officially over for a few more weeks, the start of September definitely feels like the beginning of fall. And with it comes a bunch of new movies and shows to Netflix.

While the writers’ and actors’ strikes are still going on, Netflix still has plenty to put out. And if Ted Sarandos and the other studio CEOs can stop being cartoon villains and pay people what they deserve, we won’t have to be without our fave movies and shows for too long. But their villainy seems to know no bounds. But I digress.

Starting Friday, Sept. 1, 2023, Netflix is adding a ton of new content to its lineup. Some are brand new, while others are old and familiar. The new additions include a few Oscar-winning films, a new season of a Netflix Original, some anime, and an old franchise.

First up, Netflix will be adding two very different Oscar-winning films. The first is Arrival starring Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner. It’s about a linguist who must learn how to communicate with aliens in order to stop an all-out war.

Disenchantment part 5 and Arrival coming to Netflix Sept. 1

The second is Fences starring Viola Davis and Denzel Washington. The movie is based on a play by August Wilson and tells the story of a Black family in 1950s Pittsburgh as they come to terms with how their lives have turned out. It’s an absolute classic!

Check out the Fences trailer here:

Disenchantment part 5 is also headed to Netflix on Sept. 1. The animated Netflix Original follows Princess Bean as she must now defeat her own mother if she wants to save Dreamland. She is also running from a prophecy that says she will kill the ones she loves. Yikes!! This is the final season of the comedy series.

Take a peek at the trailer for the new season here:

With the live-action version of One Piece arriving on Netflix on Thursday, Aug. 31, the streaming service is also adding a bunch of the One Piece anime episodes and films to its lineup. This includes One Piece: Adventure of Nebulandia, One Piece: Episode of East Blue: Luffy and His Four Crewmates’ Great Adventure, One Piece: Episode of Skypiea, One Piece Film: Gold, One Piece Heart of Gold, and One Piece: 3D2Y – Overcome Ace’s Death! Luffy’s Vow to His Friends.

The Jaws franchise is also on Netflix starting Friday, Sept. 1. Jaws, Jaws 2, Jaws 3, and Jaws: The Revenge are all available to stream. In my opinion, it’s not worth going past Jaws 2, but if you haven’t seen them all and are in the mood for a movie marathon where the quality goes downhill, who am I to stop you?

Season 4 of Love is Blind: After the Altar and season 6 of S.W.A.T. are also available to stream starting Friday, Sept 1.
