The sci-fi thriller Arrival is making its way to the streaming giant!

As we look ahead to the upcoming weeks, entertainment enthusiasts have a lot to anticipate. With an abundance of new series and films making their way to Netflix, there’s plenty to choose from. Among the notable additions is the highly acclaimed 2016 film Arrival. Amy Adams stars in the role of linguist Louise Banks, and this must-see film promises a thought-provoking performance.

What is the movie Arrival about?

After hearing about the alien invasion on the news, in the night, representatives from the United States Army arrive at Louise’s doorstep bringing an enticing job offer, one that beckons the expertise of the renowned linguist.

Alongside physicist Ian Donnelly, played by Jeremy Renner, they embark on their assignment. The two are tasked with figuring out a way to communicate with the aliens. The film masterfully weaves elements of science fiction with profound human emotions, creating a narrative tapestry that is as intellectually stimulating as it is emotionally resonant.

Other actors appearing in the film are:

  • Forest Whitaker as Colonel G. T. Weber
  • Michael Stuhlbarg as Agent Halpern
  • Mark O’Brien as Captain Marks
  • Tzi Ma as General Shang

Director Denis Villeneuve’s inspiration for the film is based on Ted Chiang’s short story “Story of Your Life.”

“What I love about the story is that it has a lot of layers,” Villeneuve told Female. “One of them that deeply touched me is this idea that someone is in contact with death. What would happen if you know how you will die, when you will die?”

Originally published in 1998, “Story of Your Life” lays the foundation that Arrival builds upon, paying tribute to Chiang’s initial creation while amplifying its resonance through the medium of visual and auditory storytelling.
