If you were hoping to watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on Netflix sooner rather than later, we have some slightly disappointing news to share.

The sequel to 2018’s massively beloved Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse made its arrival in theaters on June 2, 2023 and went on to bring in over $687 million at the worldwide box office. Not to mention, the movie followed suit with its predecessor and raked in universally positive reviews, earning a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Unfortunately, if you were keeping your fingers crossed that the blockbuster sequel would be one of the many new additions hitting your Netflix watch list in the month of September, you will have to keep waiting a while longer.

While the exact Netflix premiere date remains unknown and could be announced soon, as of the announcement of the month’s list of new releases, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse wasn’t among the list with Virgin River, New Amsterdam, and more top titles.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Netflix release updates

Lately, Sony movie releases on Netflix have been unpredictable at best. Although a timeframe of about six months after the theatrical run ends has been estimated for Netflix releases, some movies have dropped on Netflix well ahead of that schedule. It seems Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse won’t be arriving on Netflix in September 2023.

When Netflix revealed its complete list of new release movies and shows coming in September, the blockbuster animated movie was not included. The Pope’s Exorcist, the most recent Sony movie released on Netflix, hit theaters in April and then Netflix in August. That’s about five months, which should put Across the Spider-Verse on Netflix sometime this fall, perhaps October.

If you don’t want to wait for Netflix, you can watch the movie again or for the first time now on VOD. If you would like to own the movie, it will be released on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on Sept. 5.
