Puss in Boots 2 and the best kids movies on Netflix

Netflix has been consistently adding more and more kids movies to its platform, and there’s still so much more to be released throughout the rest of 2023. Recently, we saw the release of Puss in Boots 2, and tons of people streamed the animated film. But what other kids movies on Netflix are worth watching? Below, we shared our list of the best kids movies currently streaming on Netflix.

When Puss in Boots: The Last Wish aka Puss in Boots 2 dropped on Netflix in July 2023, it made quite a splash on the streaming platform. But this wasn’t really surprising because the animated film was already popular before its Netflix release.

It hit theaters back in December 2022 and was a commercial success. It grossed over $484 million worldwide, making it the tenth-highest-grossing film of 2022. The movie was even nominated for  Best Animated Feature at the 95th Academy Awards. Now, everyone’s wondering about a Puss in Boots 3. Unfortunately, a third film isn’t in the works, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed that this eventually happens.

Puss in Boots 2

Puss in Boots 2 is a sequel to the spin-off film Puss in Boots. The movie follows Puss in Boots as he embarks on a journey to find the mythical Last Wish and restore his nine lives. And, of course, he couldn’t go on this epic adventure alone. His ex-fiancée Kitty Softpaws and a friendly Chihuahua named Perrito tag along.

Ladybug & Cat Noir: The Movie

Fans of the Miraculous franchise were over the moon to find out that a Miraculous movie would be landing on Netflix. Based on the kids animated series Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir, Ladybug & Cat Noir: The Movie tells the origin stories of the teen superheroes. Once shy teen Marinette Dupain-Cheng and reserved teen Adrien Agreste are bestowed with magical powers, they must team up together to defeat supervillain Hawk Moth and his minions.

It looks like we haven’t seen the last of Ladybug and Cat Noir either. A Miraculous: Ladybug & Cat Noir 2 is reportedly in the works. It’s unknown if it’ll come to Netflix, though.

Despicable Me movies

It was hard to pick just one Despicable Me movie since they’re all good. So, we decided to list all of the Despicable Me movies currently streaming on Netflix. As of August 2023, the Despicable Me collection on Netflix consists of Despicable Me, Despicable Me 2, Minions & More 1, Minions & More 2 and Minions: The Rise of Gru.

While Despicable Me, Despicable Me 2 and Minions: The Rise of Gru all center around supervillain turned secret agent Gru and his yellow minions, the Minions & More movie series mainly focuses on the yellow minions.

Bee Movie

The Bee Movie is hands down one of the best kids movies on Netflix, and it looks like we’re not the only ones thinking this way. As of Aug. 11, the animated film sits at the No. 9 spot on Netflix’s top 10 movie list. This means a lot of people are watching it.

The IMDb synopsis reads, “Barry B. Benson, a bee just graduated from college, is disillusioned at his lone career choice: making honey. On a special trip outside the hive, Barry’s life is saved by Vanessa, a florist in New York City. As their relationship blossoms, he discovers humans actually eat honey and subsequently decides to sue them.”

Home

Loosely based on the book The True Meaning of Smekday by Adam Rex, Home follows a friendly misfit alien named Oh, who crash lands on Earth and finds himself forming an unlikely friendship with an adventurous teen girl. Together, they search for the teen girl’s missing mother, who was taken away during an alien invasion.

The Bad Guys

We’re used to watching movies following the hero’s journey, but in The Bad Guys, it’s all about the villains. Based on the children’s book series of the same name by Aaron Blabey, The Bad Guys follows a criminal group of animal outlaws, who after finally being caught, pretend to be model citizens to avoid jail time. But what will the rest of the gang do when their leader finds himself wanting to actually be good? Then, there’s a new villain wreaking havoc in the city. Will the notorious criminals join in on the chaos and destruction, or will they really turn over a new leaf?

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie was released on Netflix in July 2023, and many people tuned in to watch the popular kids animated movie. Additionally, it’s based on the bestselling children’s book series of the same name by Dav Pilkey.

The film follows teen best friends, George and Harold, who accidentally hypnotize their principal into thinking he’s their comic-book superhero named Captain Underpants. Together with Captain Underpants, George and Harold must put a stop to evil scientist Professor Poopypants and his villainous plans.
