Meet Me at the Lake movie adaptation coming to Netflix from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

In 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle signed a multi-year deal with Netflix to create new projects, including documentaries, feature films, scripted shows, and children’s programming. And now, it looks like they’re finally venturing into the movie side as the couple has secured the adaptation rights to the best-selling novel Meet Me at the Lake.

The book’s author, Carley Fortune, shared the exciting news in an Instagram post. The writer said she is “thrilled to confirm that [she is] teaming up with Netflix and Archewell productions on the adaption of Meet Me at the Lake.” For those who don’t know, Archewell Productions is the company Harry and Meghan started to bring stories to the screens.

It will be interesting to see the duo create something different from the documentaries we’ve seen since their Netflix deal. So what do we know about the film so far? Read on below to find out!

When is Meet Me at the Lake coming out?

Unfortunately, details are scarce right now. We’re unsure when the movie will be released on the streaming service. But as the writer’s and actors’ strikes are ongoing as of Aug. 8, 2023, it will probably be a while before we see the film on our screens. With the production company just getting the adaptation rights, it’s still in the early stages.

What is Meet Me at the Lake about?

It’s not a surprise why Harry and Meghan were both drawn to this story, and it makes perfect sense why the two wanted to bring it from page to screen. The romantic novel is centered around Fern Brookbanks and Will Baxter. The story has themes of childhood trauma, losing a parent in a car accident, and mental health struggles.

Harry lost his mother, Princess Diana, in a car crash in 1997 and chose to leave his royal titles behind after much conflict between him and his family due to his marriage to Meghan. Harry and Meghan have also opened up about meeting in their thirties and experiencing challenges with mental health. The book is also set in Toronto, where Meghan filmed Suits (now streaming on Netflix!).
