Meghan Markle and Prince Harry sign Netflix creative deal
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are officially trading in Royal life for Hollywood careers and they’ve partnered with Netflix to make their newest dream possible!
As first reported by The New York Times, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have inked a new multiyear deal with Netflix under a yet-to-be-named production company the pair are starting up. Through the new deal, Meghan and Harry will create a variety of programs for Netflix including documentaries, docu-series, feature films, scripted shows and children’s programming.
“We’re incredibly proud they have chosen Netflix as their creative home and are excited about telling stories with them that can help build resilience and increase understanding for audiences everywhere,” Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s co-chief executive and chief content officer, said in a statement.
Although it is not yet known what types of programs the pair might choose to focus on, it’s likely the duo will focus part of their attention on promoting causes close to their hearts on the unscripted side of the spectrum. As for the types of programs the pair might create on the scripted front, it’s unclear just what the duo might have in store but we’d honestly love to see them tackle some sort of period piece or series focusing around a royal family.
Also unclear at this time is just how much Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Netflix deal is worth. Considering how highly sought after the pair have been following their exit from their Royal positions, we imagine the figure might be in the six to seven-figure range.
While the deal is shrouded in mystery, two things are certain at this time.
The first is that all content the pair create will be exclusive to Netflix, which isn’t unusual as most Netflix deals tend to come with an exclusive clause of some sort. The second item is that Meghan has no plans to return to acting and will instead keep her attention behind the end of the scenes of the industry as a creator and producer.
