It’s summer 2023, and we still have many more Netflix shows to come out during this time! What’s even better is that there are also a lot of highly anticipated shows coming in the fall. We’re talking new and returning Netflix shows. However, there are some popular Netflix shows that we had hoped would be coming back in the fall, but will not be returning in time. Yes, we’re talking about Wednesday season 2…

Typically, new seasons of Netflix shows are released a year apart. However, if there are delays in the filmmaking process, or it’s a show with a lot of special effects, it may not only be a year gap. It may be longer. Sometimes the filmmaking process just takes longer, and a show isn’t able to pump out new seasons every year.

Wednesday season 1 came out in November 2022, so we had thought we’d be seeing Wednesday season 2 around the same time in 2023. But sadly, that is not the case. And this teen fantasy series isn’t the only Netflix show we won’t be seeing return with a new season in the fall.

Check out our list of four Netflix shows we’ll miss this fall below!

Netflix shows we’ll miss in fall 2023

We’ll be starting off the list with Wednesday season 2.

Wednesday season 2

Wednesday was an instant hit when it dropped on Netflix back in November 2022. In fact, within three weeks of its release, it became the second-most watched English-language Netflix series. Critics and viewers alike loved the teen fantasy series and had mostly positive things to say about the show as a whole and the performances. In January 2023, Netflix finally announced that Wednesday would be returning with a second season.

Emmy-nominated actress Jenna Ortega stars as the titular character. The first season follows Wednesday as she attempts to master her supernatural abilities while also trying to solve a murder mystery at Nevermore Academy.

Production on Wednesday season 2 is rumored to start sometime in the fall of 2023, so there’s no way it would be ready to come out then. In other words, the filmmaking process won’t be finished in time to make a fall 2023 release. And with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes going on, production will be affected if a deal isn’t reached by the fall. This means the cameras might not start rolling until sometime next year (2024) instead of in fall 2023.

Emily in Paris season 4

It looks like we won’t be seeing a new season of Emily in Paris in fall 2023. New seasons of the romantic comedy series usually come out every year in the fall, but the upcoming fourth season won’t be done with the filmmaking process in time to make a fall release. In fact, production hasn’t even started on the fourth season yet. The cast and crew are supposed to start filming Emily in Paris season 4 by the end of the fall, but we might not even see this happen with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes going on. So our best release prediction for now is sometime in 2024.

The Watcher season 2

Initially believed to be a miniseries, The Watcher was surprisingly renewed for a second season in November 2022. Well, it wasn’t completely surprising that the mystery thriller series was renewed since it fared well on Netflix. But miniseries don’t usually get additional installments. There’s usually only one season and that’s all. But I guess Netflix saw the show’s potential and decided to give it another go.

The bad news is that there haven’t been any updates on The Watcher season 2 since the renewal announcement. We’re already in the summer of 2023, and production still hasn’t started. We don’t even know if scripts have been written yet. And with the strikes going on, production will not be starting anytime soon. So, we can definitely count out a 2023 release. The earliest we could see The Watcher season 2 is sometime in 2024.

The Recruit season 2

Another smash hit for Netflix was The Recruit. The first season was released in December 2022, and it only took a month for the show to be renewed for a second season. But although we were happy to find out The Recruit season 2 would be happening, we were saddened to find out it wouldn’t be coming out until 2024. Yes, you read that right. The Recruit is confirmed to be coming out sometime next year. This means we won’t be seeing a brand new season in fall 2023 as we had hoped. Unfortunately, there isn’t an official release date for the second season just yet either. And with the strikes going on, we can only hope that production can get started by the end of the year.
