We’re still waiting for The Old Guard 2 release date, and now, we’re getting a little bit worried we won’t see The Old Guard 2 on Netflix in 2023 after all.

As fans eagerly await the release of The Old Guard 2, the excitement is real as we wonder what new twists and turns await our beloved immortal warriors.

We already know that Charlize Theron will be reprising her role as the fierce and formidable Andromache of Scythia, leading her team of immortals on another epic adventure. But the burning question remains: what challenges will they face this time? Will they encounter new enemies or forge unexpected alliances that will shake their beliefs to the core?

As we eagerly await more details, let’s take a deep dive into what we know so far about The Old Guard 2, including the returning cast and the potential plot that will serve as the backdrop for this electrifying sequel. Get ready to be transported into the world of immortals, where the stakes are high and the fight for survival never ends.

This story was published in April 2023 and updated with more release information on July 21. FanSided Entertainment’s Bryce Olin and Stefani Munro contributed to this story.

Has Netflix announced The Old Guard 2 release date?

As of July 2023, we’re still in the dark about the official release date for The Old Guard 2, but we were hoping to see Netflix share some more news about the sequel.

At the upfronts presentation on May 17, 2023, Netflix listed The Old Guard 2 as a 2023 release, but we know the list also included some 2024 releases, as well, so it’s possible Netflix is saving The Old Guard 2 for 2024.

That makes sense considering what’s happening in the industry right now, too. The WGA is on strike, along with SAG, which has shut down the production of many Netflix movies and shows. Because the AMPTP hasn’t offered the WGA and SAG what they’re looking for, we’re going to be seeing the effects of the strikes much later. So, it makes more sense to hold The Old Guard 2, a movie that’s probably done by now for the most part, for a later release date. We’re updating our release prediction to spring 2024, unfortunately.

Release Prediction Spring 2024

The Old Guard 2 was filmed in 2022

While the pandemic and busy schedules caused delays, the good news is that Variety reported in 2021 that the sequel would begin filming in early 2022. KFTV then reported in September 2022 that filming had wrapped in Rome, Italy.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that production timelines can be unpredictable, and with filming typically taking around three months and post-production even longer, we might have to wait a little longer than expected. Fingers crossed we get confirmation soon about the release date!

The Old Guard 2 predicted plot synopsis

While we don’t have much information about the plot of The Old Guard 2, we can speculate that it will likely continue the story of Andy and her team of immortal warriors as they face new challenges and enemies.

The first film left us with a lot of unanswered questions, such as the origins of the immortals and their connection to each other. It’s possible that the sequel will delve deeper into these mysteries, giving us a better understanding of the immortal world. Whatever the plot ends up being, one thing is for sure, The Old Guard 2 will be another action-packed adventure, filled with suspense, drama, and of course, plenty of sword fighting.

And let’s not forget about the enigmatic Quynh and Booker, played by Ngô Thanh Vân and Matthias Schoenaerts, respectively. We can’t wait to see where their journey takes them in this electrifying follow-up.

Of course, we can’t leave out the lovable couple, Joe and Nicky, played by Marwan Kenzari and Luca Marinelli, who have been together since the Crusades. Together, they’ll be fighting for their lives with the help of the dashing Chiwetel Ejiofor, who will be playing former CIA officer James Copely.

The Old Guard 3: Will it happen?

Interestingly, the campaign for The Old Guard 3 is already getting started. According to a report from Variety, producer Mark Evans hinted that the ending of The Old Guard 2 sets up The Old Guard 3.

Here’s what he said:

"“There’s an ending to No. 2 that kind of demands a No. 3, which makes me very happy.”"

That sounds good! Now, all we need is Netflix to get on board. We’ll keep you posted on the status of The Old Guard 3.
