The premiere of Outer Banks season 3 has had everyone talking since the new episodes dropped on Feb. 23. There’s nothing quite like watching the Pogues defy certain death over and over on their quest to finding El Dorado and tracking down that gold.

Of course, between Ward and Carlos Singh, the Pogues have multiple thorns in their side attempting to tear them down. Once again, one of those thorns is none other than Sarah’s villainous older brother Rafe.

Although Rafe began Outer Banks season 3 as someone who could have been an ally (he and Kie were in that mess together!), his true Kook colors showed throughout the season. But what happens for Rafe by the end of the season, and what’s next for him in season 4?

WARNING: Spoilers ahead from Outer Banks season 3!

What happens to Rafe in Outer Banks season 3?

Rafe kept busy in Outer Banks season 3. He robbed a tourist, put a hit on his own father, melted the Cross of Santo Domingo, and broke as bad as he could to dethrone Ward as King Kook. When he wasn’t doing all of that, Rafe also had a fling with Sofia.

When we last see Rafe in Outer Banks season 3 episode 9, he has a change of heart about killing Ward and stops the hitman. During the struggle, Ward sustains and injury and a passerby recognizes that he’s back in town. Rafe rushes Ward to the airstrip to get Ward on his plane with the Pogues. The plan takes off as the police rush onto the airstrip.

Will Rafe be in Outer Banks season 4?

Thankfully, that’s not the last we have seen of Rafe. Drew Starkey will surely be reprising his role as Rafe in Outer Banks season 4, as he was with the group sharing the season 4 renewal during the Poguelandia fan festival. Also, a bonus: Rafe did not die season 3.

Since Rafe wasn’t present in the season 3 finale or its 18-month time jump, it’s unclear what he’s up to after leaving the airstrip. Was he arrested? Did he learn about Ward’s death? Has he contacted Sarah? Did he move on from his vengeful quest for power?

Only time will tell what the future holds for Rafe in Outer Banks. Until the series returns for season 4, make sure to watch all three seasons only on Netflix.
