Let’s travel to Poguelandia, Netflix fans, because Outer Banks season 3 is now streaming! The highly anticipated third installment of the teen drama just dropped in its entirety in the early hours this morning, and fans are definitely in for a treat. The series first premiered back in 2020 and is now three seasons deep, with a fourth season on the way! If you’ve tuned in for any episodes of Outer Banks, then you’ll understand why this has become one of Netflix’s most popular series.
Started binging Outer Banks season 3 already? Then you might have a few questions. The premiere episode goes right into the action as the Pogues decide to leave Poguelandia to travel back home. But of course, it’s easier said than done.
Spoilers ahead for Outer Banks season 3 episode 1.
Though the group is enjoying their stay in Poguelandia, once they see a helicopter up in the sky, they know they’ve got to track it down. They successfully flag it down and meet the pilot, a man named Jimmy Portis. Though Jimmy is very nice and welcoming, he also seems a bit suspicious. Sarah is nervous that he might’ve been sent by her dad, but that’s not the case at all. While Jimmy was sent by someone to catch the Pogues, it wasn’t Ward.
Wahoo fish from Outer Banks season 3 episode 1
After they get all piled in, JJ asks Jimmy what he was doing all the way out by the island, and Jimmy claims he was looking for fish. Wahoo, specifically. This signals something to John B and JJ as tense music begins to play. Jimmy isn’t telling the truth. Soon enough, JJ explains to the rest of the group that Wahoo aren’t in season in September, meaning Jimmy isn’t a fisherman and he lied to them.
If you get to this scene and are a bit confused, mostly just questioning what exactly are Wahoo, have no fear! We can explain. Wahoo are a type of blue Scombridae fish, found in tropical areas. They’re popular with recreational fishermen, and like any other hunted animals, they have on and off seasons. JJ and John B are obviously very familiar with Wahoo, enough to realize they don’t run at that time.
As we find out in the Outer Banks season 3 premiere, Jimmy is actually working for a man named Carlos Singh, the new villain of the season who’s also after the buried treasure. We won’t get into spoilers for the rest of the season here, but Carlos becomes a prominent character throughout the episodes.
