Is Outer Banks season 3 the final season of OBX?

Was Outer Banks season 3 supposed to be the final season?

Although the Outer Banks season 3 finales does give off series finale vibes, there had not been any talks from Netflix or the show’s creators about ending the show with season 3. In fact, the creators behind the show have been very open in the past about planning for the show to run at least four or five seasons but now seem to have plans for the show to go on as long as possible.

During a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Outer Banks co-creators Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke revealed they’re no longer adhering to their original plan of the show only lasting four or five seasons.

“I don’t know if I could put a real number on it right now — how long it takes to get to that ending might expand, but we now know the shape of the end of the story. We’re going to take it as long as we can, for sure,” Pate revealed.

Will there be a season 4 of Outer Banks?

If you’re hoping for a fourth season of Outer Banks after finishing the show’s third season, you’re in luck! While Netflix traditionally waits to renew its shows after their launch, Outer Banks was given an early season 4 renewal ahead of season 3’s release on Feb. 23. The news was broke during Netflix’s Poguelandia fan event and helped to confirm the show will continue beyond season 3, which is great considering the massive cliffhanger the season ends on.

When could Outer Banks season 4 release on Netflix?

At this time, Netflix has not released too much information about the fourth season of Outer Banks; however, there is a strong possibility season 4 could arrive sometime in 2024. The first two seasons of the show were released roughly 15 months apart from one another with season 1 bowing in April 2020 and season 2 arriving in July 2021. So should Netflix follow a similar timeline with those first two seasons we could see season 4 arrive as early as Summer 2024.

Now, there is also a possibility it could take longer to film season 4 as we don’t know when filming will begin and one must keep in mind that the cast is much busier now as their fame has grown with the show’s popularity.

So long as production begins this year, we should see Outer Banks arrive sometime in 2024, and with the future of many other popular franchises such as The Witcher and Stranger Things up in the air one would imagine Netflix would look to avoid not having a new season of Outer Banks for 2024.
