A new ghost-hunting crew is in town, and this time it’s three teenagers running their own small psychic detective agency without adult supervision in London, England. Lockwood & Co. premieres on Netflix on Jan. 27, and it’s definitely a show you will want to check out!

Lockwood & Co. is a British supernatural series written and directed by Joe Cornish. In addition, William McGregor and Catherine Morshead directed episodes as well.

It’s about a trio of teen paranormal investigators who band together to investigate and battle some of the deadliest spirits in their city. The trio is made up of a 16-year-old girl with psychic abilities (Ruby Stokes), a rebellious yet passionate 18-year-old boy (Cameron Chapman), and a whip-smart 17-year-old boy (Ali Hadji-Heshmati).

Yes, the teen supernatural series is based on a book. It’s based on the critically acclaimed YA supernatural book series of the same name by British fantasy fiction writer Jonathan Stroud. The Lockwood & Cobook series consists of five novels: The Screaming StaircaseThe Whispering SkullThe Hollow BoyThe Creeping Shadow and The Empty Grave.

According to an interview that Joe Cornish did with Empire Magazine, the first season covers material from the first two books in the series, The Screaming Staircase and The Whispering Skull. Cornish also ensured people that they don’t need to worry about what could happen in potential additional seasons because there’s plenty of source material to work from. So, it’s up to Netflix subscribers to tune in and watch the show if they want to see the story continue in a second season.
