Before you watch any movie with dogs, you’ll want to make sure it’s suitable for children. Here’s our Dog Gone parents guide to see if this is suitable for your little ones.

When there’s a movie with a dog, your kids will want to watch it. Of course, you watched Marley and Me, and you’ll remember the heartbreak that came with that. The last thing you want is to find another dog movie that breaks hearts.

So, you’ll be looking at the Dog Gone age rating. It’s important to know if this is something for the whole family or not. We have your Dog Gone parents guide right here to help.

The movie doesn’t have an official rating just yet as it’s not been released. Netflix will put the age rating on it as soon as it’s officially out, but we’re expecting something like PG or PG-13. In Singapore, it has been given a PG rating, according to IMDb.

When looking at the listings on Netflix, this movie is put in the Teen Movies category. That would certainly match the potential PG-13 rating.

Netflix does put the movie in a few other categories, including the Kids & Family Movies category. This suggests that it is going to be suitable for children of all ages. However, it’s worth noting that this could be an upsetting story for some younger viewers. While it is based on a true story and we know how that story ends, there are going to be tense and dramatic moments that leave children worrying about the safety of the animal.

If your children were okay with Rescued by Ruby, I think they’re going to handle Dog Gone. I say this as a mother of a very emotional seven-year-old whose first question was “does the dog die?” when watching the trailer!

Dog Gone is coming to Netflix on Friday, Jan. 13.
