Rescued by Ruby premieres on Thursday, March 17 on Netflix. The film, starring The Flash‘s Grant Gustin, centers on Daniel O’Neil, a state trooper whose dream is to work in the Search & Rescue unit of his department. However, in order to achieve that dream, he’ll need a dog.

Ruby, a local shelter dog, also has a dream. She wants a family and a home, but her high energy personality has seen her returned to the shelter time and time again. Dan’s her last hope. If she can’t make it work with the O’Neils, Ruby could get put down.

Despite how rambunctious Ruby is, Dan sees her potential. She doesn’t respond to general commands and has been known to drive her owners up a wall, but Dan knows she has the capacity to become a hero. She’ll need to go through training first and actually listen to him, but Ruby isn’t incapable of becoming a K-9 member of the Search & Rescue team.

If Dan has his way, both his and Ruby’s dreams will come true. This heart-warming film is the kind of feel-good movie you should definitely add to your watch list. But, we understand if you’re worried about Ruby dying in the end. Here’s what we know about her fate!

Does Ruby die in Rescued by Ruby?

Rescued by Ruby is based on a true story. While elements of the film are subject to change, given its TV-G rating, we doubt a dog’s death is a part of the movie. Not to mention, the Miami Herald reports that the real life Ruby is still working as a rescue K-9 in 2022. Ruby has served 11 years in her job and even rescued the son of Patricia Inman, the shelter volunteer and dog trainer who kept her from being euthanized as a pup.
